3) I want to make people happy and be happy. But what does that mean?

So why don't you have a try at all of them. It's not as if any option would exclude the other. Go to school, do some voluntary work and write away when you got the time.

I guess your right. And just be patient, right? Like this shit ain't gonna fix itself tonight so might as well ride the wave.

I'm just saying that it's almost like the cosmos is trying to tell you something amigo.

You could go on a quest for blow...to give to a hooker- so you can ask her what to put in your empty box. You might find happiness along the way....that's how it happens in the stories. Gotta be worth something, right?
(anyone else see a quality Wizard of Oz sequel here...I know I do)

-Humor, btw, Connect, humor, good cheer, laughs. That's my suggestion. It's not a cause or a calling or a meaning for life, but at least it's something to do until you figure out the latter....and if you never manage to find the latter, that's okay - you'll always have those good laughs. Beats the shit out of moping or dwelling on misery, anyway. Wink

Basically, I'm telling you to lighten the fuck up, joe.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

Thank you. I really, really appreciate it. You're right, I think humor, cheers, and good laughs is a great way to kind of detach from my terrible perceptions.

Come to think of it, I used to be a lot like that when I was under religious delusion. I hated being mormon, but I thought it to be correct, and so to counter my cognitive dissonance I spent a good time making stupid youtube videos, coming up with funny skits, and trying to make people (and myself) laugh. As much as I want to deny it, I think I am realizing how negatively my religious background effected me and how much I had enabled those dogma's to effect me so much.

No that's individuality. No other person's meaning can be applied like a blueprint.

The freedom to be individual, or something else along those lines? I don't want to argue over a definition, but I think you can understand what I'm trying to say.

Just find something that either
A) You like doing, or:
B) You think needs to be done and can be done by you.

That's how you create a meaning for your life. In the end, it's as simple as that.

I love literature, and I feel there are some stories that just need to be told, and, finding I had a knack for writing, I decided to become a writer.

Life has no meaning. only a personal meaning you give to it with a nice shiny wrapper.

My experience is that meaning drifts in and out of life. There's no forcing it. Just find stuff to do, commit yourself to some goals, and eventually it will come along.

That's funny. When I came out of my only serious bout of depression I remember thinking how little I would be willing to do to be happy. I won't prostitute myself chasing after happiness. But I will go to great lengths in the pursuit of meaning. That probably says more about what gives me real pleasure than it does my 'principles'.

I used to derive meaning and purpose from being mormon. And though I was sometimes a fake believer, the delusion was empowering. Losing all that conflicts things.

There may be no real meaning or purpose...but there was be a way to feel empowered as an american atheist and regain a sense of stability and find happiness.

What is happiness? What am I? Why am I always depressed? What will make me happy? It appears almost as if nothing has the answer, nor does medical treatment.

Have you ever read the book of Ecclesiastes from the bible? It addresses you situation rather directly.
