Billion + believe in Satan. Should all schools be mandated to teach Creationism?
#11
RE: Billion + believe in Satan. Should all schools be mandated to teach Creationism?
Why not teach it as part of a mythology course? No one demands that we add the "Marduk creation story" to the science curriculum; we understand that it belongs with all of the other super-hero stories written before we had typewriters. The Canaanite pantheon misses it's little brother-- send Yahweh back home, where he belongs.
"Well, evolution is a theory. It is also a fact. And facts and theories are different things, not rungs in a hierarchy of increasing certainty. Facts are the world's data. Theories are structures of ideas that explain and interpret facts. Facts don't go away when scientists debate rival theories to explain them. Einstein's theory of gravitation replaced Newton's in this century, but apples didn't suspend themselves in midair, pending the outcome. And humans evolved from ape- like ancestors whether they did so by Darwin's proposed mechanism or by some other yet to be discovered."

Creationism and Christian theology should be taught in all public schools as part of a required curriculum on standup comedy.
Guest speakers include:
Ricky Gervais
Lewis Black
Dara Ó Briain
George Carlin
You might need a seance for that last one.
So how, exactly, does God know that She's NOT a brain in a vat? Huh

Besides education, 'mockery' and humor, if done properly, can have quite the effect.

You believe WHAT ?!?!?!?!?!?!

For example, I just found out while everyone 'thinks' (Mormons believe) that the angel Moroni told Joseph Smith about the gold plates, it turns out Old Horny Joe originally said it was the angle Nephi. Literally the VERY FIRST THING (!!!!!) Joseph comes up with was incorrect and had to be revised. And he supposedly got all this BS straight from god almighty, who apparently is severely brain damaged.

You can't make up shit like this, and that as lame as Joe was, as hopelessly inept and confused and confusing as he was, as befuddled, contradictory, incredible and ludicrous as every jot and tittle of the amazingly huge pile of crapola he barfed up, we have 12 million of our fellow humans buying it hook line and sinker.

Jesus fucking christ, if I didn't find it hysterically funny, I'd commit suicide.

In the meantime, she will be educated on the laws and theories of life and non-life. The rest I will leave up to her. Hopefully she will be well equipped to ask the right questions.

If she needs to believe in an after life, then she should know that she will have to kowtow to a religion that is likely misogynistic as are all the mainstream religions.

Quite the chance you take with your daughter.

we have to many creationists believing we came from god we need more smart innovative people.

That is the plan and that would be automatically taught as children compare the various creation myths to evolution.

"Creationism" needs to be stricken from that sentence. Fucking horseshit.

Quite foolish that.

The secular adult world is better educated in religion than the religious world and that indicates a secular interest in religious studies. If secular parents want to know and teach themselves religious studies, it follows that they would not mind starting their secular interest in religion earlier for their children. They would vote for a more intelligent level of religious education. It would improve on what is being taught to religious children today.

It is also the duty of the secular world to insure that it's future members are not as deluded by superstitious belief as their parents. The tipping point of belief is fast approaching and duty says that we should facilitate change.

Is a good knowledge base a good defence against superstition?
Yes it is.

Not required.

No reputable science teacher would include it in his curriculum.

Too slowly. Not enough non-believers are militant enough. By militant I mean recognizing that it is the duty of all citizens to help kill poor thinking within his country, --- and actively try to correct it.

I do not believe in being nice to harmful brain killing practices.

We are in a mini-Dark Age and the religious right need to be helped into the light.

Vote the religious right down and they will move left.

Because comparative religion is an easier sell and will bring less resistance.

Some countries or districts may just do as you suggest.

@Greatest I am,

I'm talking about preaching here...
The fool hath said in his heart, There is a God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good.

You'll get no argument from me in defense of mainstream religion, but I don't think believing in an afterlife automatically means you bow down to a particular religion. My father, for example, is a deeply spiritual man, was raised catholic, and, over the past few years, has adopted all manner of meditation driven woo. He was searching for God, and while he may have found a self satifying answer for his version of God, souls, and the after-life, he left his religion. He has concluded that we will never know for sure if there is a higher power or not, so he's going with what makes him feel good. He likes the idea of some family reunion style after-life (I don't know why, he hates them here).

If my daughter arrives at a similar conclusion, I won't be disappointed. Until then, I shall do my best to teach her critical thinking, the pit falls of religion, and as much science as I can (her favorite subject, next to social studies--next to cartoons, videogames, and nerf battles). If, after I've done the best job I'm capable of in preparing her, she still decides to be a fossil-denying fundy creatard, then so be it. We'll always have something to talk about. But, if I know her like I know I do, she'll have a good head on her shoulders.

You are correct- life is quite the chance we take.

Well, yeah. If it's not god going "Obey me or suffer!" there's the boogeyman, too.

But that really doesn't tie into creationism, which is really more about "Wow, god's awesome! Look at what he made!"

It's just a pedantic thing to me. Like saying "A billion+ believe in satan. Should Kirk Cameron movies be shown in school?" Aside from being components of modern Christianity, I don't see how one necessarily follows the other.
