My husband's cousin is a Hasadic Jew( Yes, I know that sounds like the set up for a bad joke). His cousin's marriage was arranged. Both individuals were adult and had visited other countries. The bride and groom wanted their marriage arranged and seemed happy. An arranged marriage does not automatically mean rape as long as both people consent. I think that most people would agree with me so I have no idea what you are talking about when you say that by the "Western concept of consent' an arranged marriage would equal rape. How could it equal rape if the bride and groom both want to be married? That doesn't even make sense.

Forcing a young woman-who might be just barely past the age of puberty-to marry her family's killer is rape. The fact that you don't understand this is troubling.
