I think I might be in an extreme minority here, but I'm not a huge fan of the billboard. I just think it's a bit too sneery at theists without any real message apart form "Lol Christianity is dumb". I know American Atheists is firebrand-y, but I think the billboard just comes off as a snotty jeer. Kind of reminds me of a shitty facebook status with the giant "LOL" missing from the end.

I agree 100%, I don't see the point and I don't think it serves any purpose. Ner ner ner, I don't go to your stupid church, ner ner ner. So fucking what? I've got a great idea, let's put up a billboard saying "Your haircut is ugly and your taste in music sucks.".
Then again, AA has a time-honored tradition of putting up horribly misguided billboards.

I'm on the same page. There's no actual engagement and it's all derogatory.
But I've never been a fan of the American Atheists. Their head honcho comes across as a bumbling neanderthal.

I thought I'd chime in with my opinion. I don't like the billboard at all. They are placed in the south and aimed at kids, reinforcing the already ridiculous notion that atheists and others are out to warp their kids. Like Faith No More said, it's all derogatory. It's just a big smear.
As an aside, I'm not sure I like the American Atheists organization either. This guy who won the American Atheist of the year award came to the university I graduated from to engage in a "Does God exist" debate, and he acted like a jackass. Any good points he made were lost because of his demeanor.

It's like they decided to prove the Fox News crowd right and start an actual war on Christmas. Genius idea
@ Strider,
anyone we'd know?

This. I think it's detrimental to opening anyone's eyes. It's just a cheap jab and money wasted that could have been better spent on other issues.

anyone we'd know? A guy named Blair Scott. I think he's a staff member for American Atheists. He just rubbed me the wrong way. He came off as pompous.
That may just be me though.

It's not just you, though. Check out videos on YouTube of the president doing a segment on Fox's Business channel. They give him plenty of room to take the high ground, and he just stays at their petty, intellectual-less level. It's like two children going back and forth on the playground.
But it appears that that's the organization that they are. It's like Alex said, it's as if the AA is out to prove Fox News is right. They play right into the stereotype conservatives have.

Why would it need any other message?
Do the jesus freaks worry about messages when they are threatening everyone else with hellfire? Fuck 'em.

Doesn't mean we should stoop to their level of flat insults without any sort of substance. I'd be fine with a little jab at Christianity if the message was about emphasizing family and loved ones over the holiday season or focusing on improving your community without the need for God, or something along those lines, but just a giant billboard insult plays right into the far right's fever dreams about atheists being snobby assholes who just want to hate Christians.
