Skip church for Christmas

RE: Skip church for Christmas
They would be offended by whatever was put up. It doesn't matter.

The slightest hint that someone, some where, thinks that their fairy tales are bullshit is enough to send them into rage.

If we have to see their bullshit jesus messages they should have to see our anti-jesus messages. Fuck 'em. I'm tired of these people.

I'm not crazy about the billboard either. De-converting believers who may be wavering in their faith is a job requiring finer tools than this billboard, which is the equivalent of a fucking sledge hammer when needle-nose pliers might be the best tool. If anything, the billboard seems to be aimed at de facto non-believers who continue to pay lip service to the church. There's nothing wrong, per se, with reminding such people that they don't really have to play along, but it will just tend to confirm for the real believers that their imaginary persecution is real. And of course, there's Fox News . . .

I say, don't give the bastards unnecessary ammunition.

Why would it need any other message?

Do the jesus freaks worry about messages when they are threatening everyone else with hellfire? Fuck 'em.

Yeah yeah, I know, you'd like to slap 'em in the face and shit on their altars or whatever Smile But to what end?
Organizations like AA have as their goal (as far as I understand) to protect secularism in the US and fight prejudice and bigotry against atheists. Maybe also to support closeted atheists e.g. by showing tham that they are not alone. This billboard maybe helps the latter, although it may not (*), and certainly hurts all of the others.

(*) if you're a closeted atheist in the south, and people around you see this and go on about what dickish aresholes atheists obviously are, this does not make your coming out any easier.

No argument with the message of the billboard, although I would have created one with a more positive winter solstice message.

I honestly wouldn't care except that there is a billboard on my way to school that reads

"Anti-god is anti-American.
Anti-American is treason.
Traitors lead to civil war."

If they're gonna be overtly offensive, a small jibe at their expense isn't something I'm gonna object to too much.

Believing this country is based on any religion is anti-American.

My personal amusement. I'm too old to worry about long term results.

I feel the same way. I have lived too long to care, so I will always state what is on my mind rather than keep quiet.

One day, I am going to start taking photos of all the religious billboards that I see while driving throughout the southern United States.

Maybe we should start a site that has photos of crazy or offensive religious billboard so that when people get mad over atheist billboards we can point them to photos of signs like the one that you described.
