Gay bakeries refuse to make cakes = discrimination

There's a difference between baking a cake for a gay marriage, and being forced to write down "gay marriage rocks!" in the same cake - I don't think either side should be forced to do something that goes against their fundamental beliefs, as much as I think being against gay marriage is a total stupidity. But baking a cake per se is only an act of business - I'm sure Christians don't refuse to bake cakes for people who have committed adultery, or women who've had abortions, or people who practice premarital sex - It's just business, get over it - I don't like Islam, but I wouldn't object baking a cake for a Muslim wedding or ceremony as long as the payment was good.

he asked if they'd make a pro-traditional marriage cake that would read "gay marriage is wrong."

So that would be like making a cake for a Muslim that reads, "Muslims are wrong", now that makes a big difference doesn't it ?.

Funny as hell, but we should have a groan button for comments like this.

It's the one that looks like a upwardly turned thumb.

Hope this helps.

This problem happened in Nortgern Ireland and in response the backery got more customers. Anyway as a result they are currently trying to pass a law which means people cannot be forced into doing things such as making a cake, if it goes against their religion.

One thing I absolutely abhor about this corporate society in which we live is the misconception that the customer is always right. As far as I am concerned, that very concept does not make for better business so much as it allows customers to be utter dicks in regards to what they want and expect from the business where they spend their money.

The business should be in control, not the stupid customer.
I completely agree that the phrase "The customer is always right" is a terrible misconception - There are so many boring, dumb and annoying, uneducated, angry unpolite customers and that sentence only serves to give them more power.

I think businesses shouldn't be able to discriminate based on basic Human principles - For instance based on race - You could imagine what would happen if all businesses decided to not sell anything to black people, right?

But it's also true that corporations trick and manipulate costumers - I'm paying for the supposedly best internet service on the market, twice the amount other companies offer, and the connection sucks - It really does, and I don't live in a far away place in the middle of the mountains, I live in probably one of the most dense urban areas in my city. I went to their shop and asked them to fix my issue - They basically told me "It's not our fault you have no connection" and so I asked for the complaints book - They gave me and I wrote down the complain, only to one week later find out it was not the complaints book but rather the "Suggestions book", which doesn't make a difference for them and the authorities who investigate customer complaints - Because of this me and my family are filling a lawsuit because it is a crime to willingly cheat on your costumer. And situations like these are the reason half right half wrong expressions like "The customer is always right" come up.
Whoever fights monsters should see to it that in the process he does not become a monster. And if you gaze long enough into an abyss, the abyss will gaze back into you
