Are you a "closet" Atheist?

RE: Are you a "closet" Atheist?
I heard a bit about laws like this recently. It seems that they can get effectively negated by a court decision, but the law still remains "on the books".

Some stupid shit still on the books of TN.

Students may not hold hands while at school.

It is a crime to share your Netflix password in Tennessee.

In Tennessee it is illegal to to post images online that cause “emotional distress” “without legitimate purpose”.

“Crimes against nature” are prohibited.

Ministers are to be dedicated to God and therefore are not eligible to hold a seat in either House of the Legislature.

Any person who participates in a duel may not hold any public office in the state.

Giving and receiving oral sex is still prohibited by law.

Stealing a horse is punishible by hanging.

No Christian parent may require their children to pick up trash from the highway on Easter day.

It is legal to gather and consume roadkill.

You can’t shoot any game other than whales from a moving automobile. ( Where are these damn Tennessean whales? )

Hollow logs may not be sold.

More than 8 women may not live in the same house because that would constitute a brothel.

It is illegal to use a lasso to catch a fish.

The definition of “dumb animal” includes every living creature.

Interracial marriages are illegal.

Tattooing a minor is a misdemeanor.

It is illegal to dare a child to purchase a beer.

It is illegal to place tacks on a highway.

I was aware of some of those. I knew a guy who was arrested for public profanity once. The cop was just looking for a reason to arrest him. There are some other ones still on the books here that I didn't see such as "unnatural intercourse" which basically outlaws any penetration that is not vaginal. There are a ton of stupid ones.

I'm guilty of a lot of crimes. Angel

Looks like Texas has the supreme being before holding public office law. It's right next to the law that prohibits ownership of six or more dildos. That speaks for itself.

I was incorrect. The law against atheist serving in NC was not challenged until 2009
when Cecil Bothwell became a city council member in Asheville, NC.

I'm not an atheist, exactly. I'm a deist.

I have no issue entertaining theists their thoughts, and saying that even though I not believe: I can understand where they're coming from. Honesty is terrifying though, and it is the direct enemy of a manipulator.

So... nobody 'knows'.

Seriously what the fuck is wrong with people.
just because the guy is a atheist and he doesn't believe in god you want him out of a position. Wow and theses same theists who run for office failing about failing schools are the same people cutting education. One wonders why cut education and make schools fail.... more ignorance means more theists. and that is bad thing we need young generations to be smart. Everyone should have a chance in office despite if they believe in god or not. Why cater to only people who believe in god its not right. Why do people who believe in god feel persecuted when they do the persecution. They get called out on it and use the i believe in god and your accusing me of x y z i feel persecuted.

I'm glad that I raised my kids to make up their own minds about it. I have given them (and still do give them) rebuttal arguments to the spam/parroting they get from their friends when/if they need/ask for it, but I've always presented it as the other side to the coin.

I've allowed them to go to church and make up their own minds and they've managed quite nicely at spotting the bullshit before it gets into their brain. Big Grin

I'm vocal about my atheism whenever I get approached by people trying to "save" me, especially when it's some street preaching whack-job. Other than that, it rarely comes up.
