If it was flying high, then it was huge and fast.

To put it in context, airliners from Perth international airport fly over our house on a daily basis heading north to the mines. When they pass over our house they are only at a few thousand feet(the airport is only 25 miles away so they have only just taken off) and travelling at least 500mph.

What we saw was much larger and brighter and moving a lot faster than they do.

It's like a dry cleaning bag with a candle in it. A tiny hot air balloon. The candle lights it up and makes just enough hot air to keep it aloft. A little bit of wind and they can scoot over a neighborhood . . .

Less than 30 seconds from the time I first spotted it as it came over our garage roof(I was sitting just inside the side door of our garage) til it went behind the roof of next doors garage. When I looked around the back of next doors garage to get another look I was able to watch it for at least another minute until it disappeared from view.

I saw one when I was eight. Strangely, a year later, I would find out about people seeing something eerily similar downstate.
