If Dirch is liberal why isn't he acting secular.

Again I follow the bible/biblical Christianity.

The liberal seeks out the liberal side of the bible and makes a religion around it.
The conservative does the same with the stuff he likes.

I take both side and don't filter out anything. That means for the liberal I seem conservative, and to the conservative I seem too liberal.

My goal is not to be one or the other. I do not care what either one thinks. My only goal is to follow the bible as closely as I can. Ironically that seems to piss off everyone, which means I must be on the right track because Christ and his followers pissed off everyone too.

Funny thing I have family there and never been. My one chance was to go with my mom durning the mid 90's for two weeks and could not go or I'd have lost my job. What makes this all funny is the 'angel' story I tell happened right in the middle of her trip to Korea.
Quote:The Koreans I knew weren't wealthy but ate Bulgogi and dishes like that.
in the 80's it was common. My hom-mo-knee (grandmother) would say how rich we were because this food was the food of royality, and poor people would be lucky to eat it once in their life. My mother even would chim in and say she only ate it on weddings and special birthdays. We had it or Kalbi once a week. (Spare ribs)

Quote:There were some street vendors outside Osan Air Force Base who would sell Yaki Mandu and these little thin packs made with vegetables.
I LOVE mandu (dumplings) my grandmothers was the best. I have this soy, honey, soju, pepper paste dip for mandu that is to die for. I put it on everything.

Quote: I grew up outside of Ft Bragg and many of my friends had a parent who was Korean. They ate those foods also. Cucumber kimchi
Oi kimchi. I guess if I were 1/2 jew it would be Oy kimchi!
ROFLOL or so I'm told by the noob.

Quote:is the bomb by the way. Korean food is highly underrated and is some of the best food ever
I love almost all of it. Gaegogi is not something I want to try Dog

I can't do smilies on thid phone but imagine one with a confused expression here because I don't know either

I have trouble doing quotes within quotes. When I used the term drafted, Drich I was thinking that your grandfather must have been forced. People can be very cruel to one another. I have very happy memories of Korea and it is sad that the people of that country suffered so much

Bad things while they go on sucks, but often afterward put us in a better place if not always as an indivisual, but often as a people.

I view that church much like I do this web site. I am there to answer questions, and provide clarity. its just another oppertunity to help people find God.

Hey, Drich, so you have a small taste of what's its like to be an agnostic in a Catholic school. The other day, I said something mildly disrespectful towards religion, and my friend shushes me and looks around to see if any of the teachers heard. Honestly, I can't even try to debate, because then I'll get in a shit-load of trouble.

Not when you're dealing with Yahweh, that's for sure. Sometimes nothing 'good' comes at all.

"Well, evolution is a theory. It is also a fact. And facts and theories are different things, not rungs in a hierarchy of increasing certainty. Facts are the world's data. Theories are structures of ideas that explain and interpret facts. Facts don't go away when scientists debate rival theories to explain them. Einstein's theory of gravitation replaced Newton's in this century, but apples didn't suspend themselves in midair, pending the outcome. And humans evolved from ape- like ancestors whether they did so by Darwin's proposed mechanism or by some other yet to be discovered."

That's what we are here for. Everything has its place and time.

"librul" in Christian Circles means "believes crazy shit that's different from the crazy shit I believe." It has nothing to do with politics.

How is pissing off the members of you wife's church a sign that you are on the right track? It could be a sign that you sound arrogant and condescending to other people. How does you wife and in laws feel about your views? Are you as sarcastic to your chuch's congregation as you are here?

Idk if this is a good thing or a bad thing but they (the church eldership) asked me to teach Sunday mornings at a smaller sister congergation about 30 family's so I'm told.

While they do not always like to hear me challenge tradition, many of the elders cant argue with my exegetical work. They will say 'we will agree to disagree' or they will try and invoke some sort of power of eldership, and make a proclamation that this is what the church believes.. Upon which I remind them This is what the pope does as well as the prophets of Mormonism, when they do not have the bible to back them up.

My wife cringes when I and the preacher butt heads (after church) but ultimatly supports what I do, even if she doesn't always understand all of it because she see the hours/days/weeks that goes into researching just one topic.

It all may seem off the cuff here, that's only because I have had these discussions hundreds of times now, and have most of them down/committed to memory. In truth I have spent many many many hour researching each topic well before any of them are discussed.

Also understand I believe they are a canonical Jesus Christ centered church and are allowed to make these mistakes so I let most of the go unless they threaten core principles that will change their status as a canonical Jesus Christ centered church. That is unless someone there like here, asks me a question or wants me to critique a teaching or church doctrine. If they do I will tell them the truth.

That isn't the real irony at all, though there are many great ironies at work here. One is that all three of you are interpreting the same text in different ways. Another is that all of you are certain that your methods of interpreting the text of the bible are the most accurate and correct. Another is that all three of you are certain the other two aren't doing it right. Another is that all three of you make the other two angry and are convinced that it proves you correct. Of course, none of you can prove any of what you say to any reasonable level of satisfaction, so the biggest irony of all is that you're almost certainly all equally wrong.

Dirch your not following the bible fully... in fact why aren't you threating us atheist with death or even threatening to kill us?
