Welcome. Smile You describe yourself as a Christian Atheist. That is similar to my attitude. Also I think there might be some sort of higher power, but maybe not.

That would make you as Christian agnostic.

"I think I use the term “radical” rather loosely, just for emphasis. If you describe yourself as “atheist,” some people will say, “Don’t you mean ‘agnostic’?” I have to reply that I really do mean atheist, I really do not believe that there is a god; in fact, I am convinced that there is not a god (a subtle difference). I see not a shred of evidence to suggest that there is one ... etc., etc. It’s easier to say that I am a radical atheist, just to signal that I really mean it, have thought about it a great deal, and that it’s an opinion I hold seriously." - Douglas Adams (and I echo the sentiment)

LOL, that brings-up the teminology such as: agnostic, ignostic, apatheistic, agnostic-atheist, gnostic-Christian, etc. Smile You are probably right that "Christian agnostic" is a better description of me.

I've seen two definitions of "Christian atheist". Zealous Christians malign other Christians for being "Christian atheists" (i.e. Christians who behave like they do not believe).

However, there are also people who identify themselves as "Christian atheists", because they agree with atheists that Christianity is fiction, but they find inspiration in Christian teachings ("love thy neighbor", etc.) I think that is what the OP means? It's more than simply pretending to be a Christian or respecting Christianity; it's trying to practice Christianity sincerely while being an atheist?

Quick question: is anything keeping you from becoming a non Christian singer songwriter?

I have my own guitar, and Keyboard. I have written a few songs, and I also have sheet music/tablature sheets. The only 2 things keeping me from becoming a non-christian singer is that my voice is incredibly nasally and I haven't overcome the straining while going for the higher notes yet. I'm getting better, but I still have a ways to go.

This. If writing and performing Christian music makes you feel better, then go right ahead and do it. Sit down and ask yourself what it is about the music that makes it enjoyable to write and record. If you find that you no longer enjoy it, then by all means move on, but there's nothing about being a former believer that stops you from creating the music if it's what you love.

As for the rest of the OP: how does one do it? A day at a time. It seems you've only recently deconverted and that it was a difficult process for you. Give yourself time to deal with it and keep asking questions and seeking answers. Take it slow and see how your new outlook affects the way you approach life and your decisions. Our minds are pretty good at adapting to changes if we grit our teeth and stand our ground, but it's not an instantaneous process. Give it time.
"Well, evolution is a theory. It is also a fact. And facts and theories are different things, not rungs in a hierarchy of increasing certainty. Facts are the world's data. Theories are structures of ideas that explain and interpret facts. Facts don't go away when scientists debate rival theories to explain them. Einstein's theory of gravitation replaced Newton's in this century, but apples didn't suspend themselves in midair, pending the outcome. And humans evolved from ape- like ancestors whether they did so by Darwin's proposed mechanism or by some other yet to be discovered."

That would stop you from becoming a christian singer as well. The bar isn't any lower, except maybe for lyrics.

If you're a decent songwriter, consider joining or starting a band. You don't have to be the front man, you know.

▲this.

Music is a load of fun, Christian or not. I'm thinking about doing a thing with a couple of friends.
