Yep. They don't want to hear any free speech that isn't theirs.
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist.  This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair.  Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second.  That means there's a situation vacant.'

Jesus is as fucking stupid as Dagon, prof.

And then we get this:

Quote:But the 78-year-old pontiff also said "each religion has its dignity" and "there are limits".

"You cannot provoke, you cannot insult other people's faith, you cannot mock it," the pontiff said.

"Freedom of speech is a right and a duty that must be displayed without offending."

This from the leader of the organization who bandied about words such as blasphemer, heretic, spawn of Satan and who knows what else over the centuries. Guess what jackass, we'll continue to insult your worldwide criminal enterprise any time we wish.

I don't think this latest Papal utterance is going to help him on the PR front.

Why are the religious so afraid of mockery and verbal insults? Can't their god do something about it? I'm guessing they don't like it because it is working to make them look like fools.

Piety, by Brian37. (AKA, Brian James Rational Poet on FB and @Brianrrs37 on Twitter)

Oh grand Phallus

You live

In a palace

Wearing your phony crown

But atoms and quarks

Defy your remarks

For in the end

We lose all sound

The sun will expand

Making coal of the land

And with it too

The myth you spew

Impressed not the least

With your strut

Impoverished player

Reality guts

In gaps you fill

With magical spells

Wane through generations

Morphing into newer fables

Beseeching is reason

You can't hold hostage

Free from your shackles

My mind grasps knowledge

Transparent friends

Fall prey to truth

Your god is not needed

And neither are you

The topic is hot at the moment, and people are interested in the reasoning of theism. I've seen a video of a comedian having the offense explained to him. He saw the point and changed.

There's a lot of distasteful, in my opinion, pressure from secularists to assert their identity over everyone elses.

I think is an interesting discussion. Interesting to hear the opinion of Muslims. Interesting the discussions on freedom of speech and incitement.

You can't have freedom of speech and then put conditions on it.

No one is putting any conditions on it. I'm certainly not proposing that. I doubt that the Pope is. I've heard his words quoted both ways. I think the fuller transcript is revealing.

You are free to say what you want. If you insult a person then you have to expect repercussions. People are banned from these forums all of the time purely on the things that they have said. Are their freedoms compromised?

Would you prefer we shot them in the face instead? I like to think there's a pretty important distinction between what sort of repercussions are reasonable to expect (or defend).

I like this pope better than those who came before him, but he's still just a pope.

We're not talking about violence Ryan, but freedom of speech. For instance, your comment there is pretty inflammatory. I defend your right to say it. I also support your censorship if you overstep the mark. Do you support this forums censorship?

The pope shouldn't be talking about freedom of speech. Him saying no one should criticize someones faith that was really dumb of him.

I think there is also a distinction to be drawn regarding what it is we censor. If you look at our rules list, you'll note that, with a few exceptions, such as malware or pornography, we don't censor content. Certainly, we don't edit posts to redact anything, and we don't punish people simply because they say something objectionable or insulting.

We do censor behavior that is disruptive or malicious, but you can say just about anything you want, as long as you do it in the proper manner.
