Yet, I choose to treat anyone who comes with a story like that as legit by default. Of course that means there's a danger to get trolled and make an ass of oneself often, but I like that better than the alternative.

I agree. I've been through the ordeal of supporting two people who were genuinely raped. Anyone trivialising such an horrific trauma needs to reapply to join the human race.

Anyone remember the incident in Egypt several years ago when gunmen opened fire on tourists and killed many of them? I was attending a training programme at the time and one of my fellow trainees claimed his family was among the dead. Did he get shit when we found out he was lying for the attention.
