I'm not really sure what has to be explained away, to be a Christian anyway...

That's not what the alleged "jesus" said.

Quote:17 Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.

18 For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.

19 Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.

Matty 5

According to the bible, god does not change. In the New Testament, Lot was considered righteous.

From 2 Peter

7and if He rescued righteous Lot, oppressed by the sensual conduct of unprincipled men 8(for by what he saw and heard that righteous man, while living among them, felt his righteous soul tormented day after day by their lawless deeds),

I still want to know where the hell they got the alcohol and why Lot still trusted his daughters enough to get drunk after the first rape.

leave the scriptural laws to those believers who are called to answer to them.
If you are not one this is not your jurisdiction.

What do you mean leave the spiritual laws to the believers? And what is not 'your jurisdiction'

Are you saying that nonChristians can't criticize or discuss the bible?

This exact thing came up on another forum I visit (it's a hockey forum with a catch-all politics/religion section).

All I can get from it is that incest and rape were cool with god at that time, since it happened right after sky daddy destroyed the two cities for their wickedness and no punishment was given here. Some Christians try to wash it away with a trite "See, there has always been evil!" or something along those lines, but the story isn't presented as being a bad thing. It's just matter of fact in order to get the next generation of tribes onto the stage.

Ultimately, it's just another example of how horrible that book is, and why it shouldn't be the cornerstone of one's belief system.

So Lot offers his daughters to be gang raped by the men of the town in order to protect a pair of angels. And his daughters get him drunk in turn and commit incestous rape upon his somnolent body(note that he wasn't so drunk that he couldn't get an erection, twice!)

But God thinks this arsehole and his whorish daughters are righteous.

Ps don't forget that God turns Lots wife into a condiment for the apparently unforgivable sin of looking back.
And the Christians wonder why we think they're stupid for believing this idiotic drivel.

Funny thing is, in all my years in church and on christian schools, I never heard this one or the one about Lot and the angels.

I suppose even most Christians find this bullshit and freaky. So it means they get to choose some verses that they approve off, tell you god is real "cause the bible tells you so". And leave out creepy shit like this. Mean whilst, everyone is still expected to believe these "good" stories about Noah and king Solomon and Jesus.
How can they stand for their own religion, if they disregard so many features of their "holy" book?

It is to say that even religious people can change their rules to whatever is best for them, isn't that convenient???
