So did Atheism + bite the dust?

Maybe I am somewhere in the Milky Way right now, but I do not see what the big deal is concerning them.

They were not, but the drama was too high and IMO they went over the edge, by making a black and white thinking of "us vs them".

I do not concurr completely with their dogma, therefore I'm a male white previleged hetero guy or something evil. I steered clear of them. Better not give idiots more audience than what they deserve.

So funny when Richard Dawkins trolled them on Twitter about this...lol

Make no mistake - GG started as a way to punish Zoe Quinn for allegedly sleeping around to get favorable reviews of her indie game as reported by her jilted ex-boyfriend. The 4chan screenshots discussing 'retribution' are widely available for all to see. A game that was free, btw. From there, it spiraled out as a campaign against any woman who dared besmirch the 'boys only' activity of gaming, including critic Anita Sarkeesian.

The "It's actually about ethics in gaming journalism" portion came afterward due to a hilarious misreading of an email group message between various prominent gaming journalists. Allegations of collusion popped up, but having read through the emails myself, it was really just benign correspondence between professionals. Other professions do the same thing. It's no big deal.

That anything positive has come out of the shitstorm is amazing. IMO, the people who want to force the media to regain their sense of accountability would be better off dropping the GG name altogether. You can't claim moral authority when your group has no problem doxxing, harassing, and threatening others. Or for having Adam Baldwin as cheerleader #1.

In the land that adults work and live in, that kind of shit isn't acceptable. Hopefully, gamers will grow up, because it's embarrassing to see.

Theories are structures of ideas that explain and interpret facts. Facts don't go away when scientists debate rival theories to explain them. Einstein's theory of gravitation replaced Newton's in this century, but apples didn't suspend themselves in midair, pending the outcome. The thing is, GamerGate is still making gains. Just yesterday, TheVerge sneakily updated it's disclosure policy when making a review; this is the same website that hated gamers.

Since when is the majority of GamerGate approving of doxxing and harassing? The main hub for GamerGaters (Kotakuinaction) has it written in the rules that harassment is not acceptable. And to be honest, the gaming press's treatment towards gaming comparing them to terrorists is not moral.

Statistically, Anti-Gamer Gate have thrown out more threats than pro-Gamer Gate. I suggest you watch the ''Anti-Gamer speaks video'' I posted on the previous page.

GamerGate reacted because Gamers do NOT want the gaming press calling them horrible, awful human beings who are akin to terrorists. In the land where adults live and work, ethics is needed and demonizing the demographic you report for is not professional. In terms of the degree of ethics:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wy9bisUIP3w

And it is about ethics in games journalism, the sheer fact that the Gaming press immediately reacted with a slew of articles attempting to assassinate the gamer identity shows they can fling shit, but they cannot take it back.

People are distrustful of Anita Sarkeesian because she is a known fraud. This video flat out shows her saying ''I love gaming'' to another lesser known clip of her saying ''ew, I don't play video games''.

CH Sommers, a Feminist with a PHD was subsequently harassed for saying that gamers aren't what the media is making them out to be.

Stop posting videos and think for yourself.

It's like you have a fetish for Anita Sarkeesian or something. Shut up about Anita Sarkeesian already. It's been years. Get over it!

The Messiah - LOL are you really quoting factual feminist? In case you don't know it's associated with the american enterprise institute - A conservative organization that is against any social justice and pro-republican // Pro-bush administration. Do you expect to be taken seriously? As for gamergate, I really don't give a shit, I'll just say that anyone who insults and threatens other side is a moron. Anita Sarkeesian may cause controversy and all, but that doesn't justify the amount of rape threats she gets to the point she has to deactivate youtube comments. The gaming community needs to grow the fuck and stop making games criticism-exempt - Games make mistakes like any other form of medium.

Messiah, you are quoting videos from people who are biased against the other side. It's possible to search ANYTHING on youtube and find a video of someone arguing for it. If I search "proof god exists" that will give me a video to prove god exists. You can't claim to be right simply by quoting videos from conservative organizations and people who are anti-feminism and anti-social justice. If you are sooo right then explain to me by constructive criticism and not by posting videos bashing the people you don't like

I can think for myself, thank you. A video is evidence, I am showing that in a minutes clip, she contradicted herself. That is when a video is needed to illustrate my point.

No, it hasn't been years...she's still active unfortunately...

Yes, I quoted Factual-Feminist. CH Sommers has a PHD; she is a respected and established Feminist, not a blogger like Anita Sarkeesian.

And for your information, CH Sommoers is a registered Democrat. But this isn't the point so what if it's conservative? There is Conservative and there is Liberal, I'm not sure why being a Conservative is a red flag to be honest...

I certainly do not agree with death or rape threats. But what about the harassment Gamers face? They have faced far more threats than Anita Sarkeesian, the video compiled all the tweets which called for the death and genocide of gamers.

Quote:Messiah, you are quoting videos from people who are biased against the other side. It's possible to search ANYTHING on youtube and find a video of someone arguing for it.

The difference is that my videos are not my argument...

The videos I have quoted are videos which compile evidence. For example, the Anita Sarkeesian video shows her saying that she is an avid gamer, to a more unknown clip of her contradicting herself by admitting she knows nothing about gaming.

So, no...

I quoted a video which showed harassment towards gamers. This is not an argument, it's a recording of threats. I quoted a video of Anita Sarkeesian contradicting herself about gaming.

This woman claims that her criticism on gaming is valid because she herself feels singled out in gaming; yet a video emerges of herself claiming that she doesn't game at all? Not sure why that shouldn't be posted.

It's not bashing to post a video of a woman contradicting herself, nor is it bashing to post a video of a respected Feminist evaluating evidence.

CH Sommers has been a Feminist for more than 40 years, at a time to which it was needed, and by her own admission, she is a Democrat with Libertarian views.

https://superrajio.wordpress.com/2014/09...h-sommers/

Either way, if Factual-Feminist is illegitimate because it's Conservative, then I play devil's advocate by saying Anita and her third-wave Feminism bandit crew are loonie Left-wingers.

RE: So did Atheism + bite the dust?
So what? Do you have problems with people expressing their points just because it doesn't fit your criteria of truth? I think she said some very poorly constructed claims like that "we live in a white supremacist society" - But I'm much more on her side not because I agree but because she keeps doing her job (and is probably paid for it) despite all the rape and death threats to the point she had to cancel lectures due to terrorist bombing threats. I really don't give a shit about what she says, I protect people who use freedom of speech and hate people who threaten those who use it - Like I hate religious people who threaten atheists for making youtube atheistic videos.

I don't give a crap if she contradicted herself, I've already said I'm not interested in what she does for a living - But I give a shit about people who think it's normal and expected for someone to receive death and rape threats Wink ---> And yeah, she gets those threats because she is a WOMAN - You would never see a male personality in gaming getting so many threats for speaking about gaming in sexism ---> She gets threats because she's a non conformist and insults a medium that is very much loved by many people.

So you are bringing harassment, a thing that targets mostly women? Have you ever tried to use a female name online? I have, and it's not pleasant - It's embarassing and gets you lots of harassment. Also something else ---> you don't need to be a gamer to criticize forms of medium including games - Let me explain, if you want to criticize mechanics, graphics, plot, etc you need to be a gamer and experience the game // But to criticize social values and if there is any -ism you don't need to be a gamer; just like I'm not a cinema critic but I can say a movie is sexist, racist, homophobic, etc.
