If we were to debate on evolution or the beginnings of the universe, you would inevitably declare "i don't know", and expect applause for your honesty and integrity, and then try and capitalise on it by contrasting the religious who think they "know everything" with atheists who don't pretend to have all the answers.

Sorry, but you're preaching here that you're in possession of the Truth, the Way, and the Light -- and yet here you are, contradicting his very words.

Color me unconvinced. You'll cite the Bible when it suits your needs, and then you'll turn around and say that it doesn't mean what it says when it works against you.

An all knowing being should have been able to write a holy book that isn't so confusing

Not a bad answer, just one you do not like to hear. You nor anyone else chooses hell, we're born to it. The real choice is Christ and only through Him is salvation possible.

How can I "choose" something I don't believe exists? I get tortured for eternity for being wrong? That is evil beyond description. And you want to spend eternity with the agent of such evil?

I have news for you GC: If you are right, we live in a nightmare universe and it won't be any better for you than it will for me. The God you believe in is worse than anything imaginable.
Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former.

Oh how the obvious points require such fewer words. If I were a Christian, the intellectual backflips alone that are required to make these concepts palletible to an upright-walking being would have been enough to make me take pause and reconsider my epistemology. It's truly an awe-inspiring spectacle to see a fellow ass-wiping sentient use their thoughts as shit pads.

Doesn't this say a lot about the god that created their text, the most important document in the history of the universe (according to them), so badly that no 2 believers get the same message?

My view of hell seems to tie all the scripture verses together, I may be wrong about part of it, but not all. On eternal punishment I see this as the verse that confirms. Matt. 25:46 And these will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life. This is a simple straight forward statement from Jesus, in this He left no getting around eternal punishment. Everything else about hell has to fit with this straight forward statement. God did not leave a confused Bible, it's the people that get confused when we do not allow Him to teach us and all Christians are guilty of this.

With that said, Lek and I do not worry about hell it's not a part of our lives now, so it really doesn't matter how we interpret the scriptures on hell. It doesn't actually matter if any Christian gets it right, it's not something we worry about. Hell is far from being an important part of Christianity, it does however fall right into the laps of those who refuse to believe in Christ. Hell has been a reason for people to come to Christ and rightly so, it want be pleasant, love however should be the greater part of the Christians life.

God loves those who believe and those who do not and the same goes for me, you have no choice in this matter. That puts the matter of total free will to rest.

Religion is a con. It's designed to entice the weak willed and weak minded to volunteer for a life that's subservient and meager. "I'll gladly pay you with eternal paradise on Wednesday for your complete obedience today."

My reasons for believing it are scriptural. As I explained in another post, I see the eye witness testimonies of prophets over the centuries, even millennia, telling the same story consistently and cohesively as evidence. Am I safe in assuming that that would not satisfy? Nevertheless, it is sufficient for me.

Well said. Enjoy.

Jesus is the way, the truth and the *life*, i never claimed to be. Don't strawman.

Read what I wrote again. I didn't say you claimed to be that. Perhaps if you knew how to read English, you could better understand the Bible you claim to follow even as you contradict it. Just a thought, y'know.

It seems to be you who is ignoring what it says, i gave a dozen examples of what it says, all you've given is your imagination that eternal fire = eternal life of torture, even though it would be contrary to all the passages i cited.

I'm going to remind you that I mentioned cherrry-picking for precisesly this reason. You are picking which verses you wish to pay attention to in accordance to your own beliefs, and ignoring those verses which are countervailing, and in the process denying the words of your Christ.

Hope that works out for you.

There will be an eternity of torment, not from God, but from the individuals that are there, they torment their own selves, this is how the sins of each will have there own consequences. This is how the torment of some will be far worse than others, they suffer because of what they have done individually. those in hell will be their own torment, God has nothing to do with that part, it's the individuals doing, crazy but fits the scriptures. You don't like it take it to God.

I'd love to know which Bible verses say all that. It sounds made-up to me.

Just the idea that you have to make a decision that will decide your eternal furutre in what will eventually feel like a fraction of a second, screams of a scam. Once you're dead, it's too late. Too late for what, exactly? for religious leaders to control my life, and take my money?
