Those who oppose infant baptism argue that a person should be allowed to choose after reaching the age of reason. However, in adult baptism the person is also not free to decide. The person has probably been taught from childhood that Christianity is true, so he/she is choosing between heaven and hell - get baptized and follow Jesus or go to hell. So it is the same whether we baptize infants or adults. Indoctrination removes the choice either way.

I think it's worth pointing out that baptism isn't some sort of irreversible surgery that forever changes a person's character (like the capping process in
The Tripods). It's just water and a few 'magic' words.
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist. This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair. Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second. That means there's a situation vacant.'

It's a funny thing, baptism. I've been taught that you have to say the exact words in the exact order, otherwise the whole thing just doesn't count. Imagine that, you can't get into heaven because some lousy preacher had one glass of service wine too many that day. I'd be pissed.

Norm, could you just dump all the stuff you learned from religionists and read the bible for yourself?
Think if it as a spiritual enema.

"Spiritual enema" is probably the best description of the bible I've ever heard.

A World of Warcraft moment?
