That's a real shame. I had my moments of liking ST, and it was one of my mother's favorite shows. I know I've sen him in other things, and really rather liked him. One of the few famous people I'd have been be OK with meeting. Talented, but down to earth.

I've been a Star Trek fan since I was a teen in the 1970s so this is definitely sad for me. Star Trek introduced me to Secular Humanism, long before I realized it had a name.

Of course, I'm equally sad that only Ginger and Mary Ann remain from Gilligan's Island.

One of the first shows I was allowed to watch and instantly loved. It didn't air in my region till the early 70ies.

A real shame, Spock was my favorite character. But as has been said, dying at 83 isn't exactly way before your time.

Nooooooooooo. 。・゚゚・(>д<)・゚゚・。

I hadn't heard this until now.. I always hoped I'd get to see him at a convention. Star Trek means a lot to me (Roddenberry's idealized future really resonates with me), and I liked Nimoy and loved his continuing passion for the fan community. He'll be sorely missed. Sad

Lots of people loved him. I was more of a fan of the following series than the original one. I have to point out though back in the 70s Nemoy hosted a conspiracy show "In Search Of" which sold the same crap still sold in other shows today like space aliens and crop circles. But regardless he was well loved by his fans and he will be missed.

He created a cultural Icon. Damn...

P.s.
And if you haven't seen it, watch the 70s version of the Body Snatchers!

Yes, I remember. I was a UFO, ancient astronauts and Atlantis believer back then. I got better.

Ironically, one of my earlier exposures to skepticism was at a lecture by a professor of astronomy at a Star Trek convention in 1977.

As a child I love Erich von Däniken. But the point of growing up is to get over gullibility and believing in sky fairies. But I'd like to point out that even as a ten year old I rather believed in ancient aliens than in the christian god.
