Health Care bill passed

RE: Health Care bill passed
There isn't anything anti-capitalist about getting rid of insurance companies. If the government can provide a service which it should be bound by law to do (i.e. protecting the lives of its citizens) then it should do so. Insurance companies won't be outlawed by a government service, much like they aren't outlawed in the UK. Instead, they exist to provide a competing and better service than the government might.

The reason it hasn't happened up until now in the US is because of capitalism = unfettered greed as shown in this sub human system.

I only wish we were. Hopefully, this is just a first step.

It isn't anti-capitalistic to make illegal a market for all save the government? It certainly seems to serve against the competition created by capitalism...

+1 @ bold Smile Though again, if a government were to make the market illegal, it might not itself enter into the market (ie: slave market)... and so too it might offer a similar service (that is not necessarily better). It rather depends on the circumstances. Smile

Really? Define for me "We", what precisely you mean by "f***ing", and in what context you are using "doomed"?

Did you mean to suggest that "we" (being everyone) is going to die? That's a given though... why would you mention it? Confused

Did you mean to suggest that "we" (being Americans) are going to suffer terribly now that this bill has passed? But what rational would you have for believing such nonsense? :S

Did you mean to suggest that "we" (being fellow forum members) are f***ing doomed for some reason? I can't fathom why you might think that... but it is yet another one of many interpretations of your very short, half-censored sentence...

Rather than me guessing over the millions of things you might mean... why don't you elaborate instead? Smile

Yes. Saerules makes a good point. How the hell is a relatively mild healthcare bill going to "fucking doom" us?
If you assume that it will lead to Socialism, what do you mean by it, and what is so bad about it. For that matter are you aware that there is an entire spectrum of socialisms that go beyond Stalin and Mao, and much closer to a lot of modern European states, ones that seem much less repressive and actually far more stable?

That's not true. The Health care bill has different things that take effect at different times. Some things go into effect immediately, other things in a few months. By 2014 all changes will be in effect and insurance companies will no longer be able to deny coverage based on pre-existing conditions.

And thanks for merging the threads Leo. Had I noticed the other one I wouldn't have posted a new one. I even looked for one expecting another one to be there and I must have missed it. >/

The government in charge of health care and medical insurance policies? Lmao this should be good. If you think that insurance companies are full of corrupt leeches and blood sucking vampires, wait till you see what the government can do. This government of our good ole United States has made moves to take over the automobile industry, the pharmaceutical and banking institutions etc. and when it finally manages to get to the level of power it craves it will change everything for the worse. Soon our citizens our going to get shafted in so many ways it is going to be pitiful. It is going to be about you shutting up and being grateful for whatever pittance this government will allow you to have.

Wow, that's quite the slippery slope and ad hominem attack on government. Have any evidence for what you say?

This stinks of the people who insist Obama is a socialist for wanting health care reform. It's absurd.

Take over, CP? They stepped in to stop 3 US automakers from going out of business, the drug companies are raking in money hand over fist and I can only wish that banking regulation gets through Congress before those crazy, greedy fuckers destroy the world's economy again.

That's just pure right-wing rhetoric.
