The Bible Belt/Republican Party is full of hypocrites. Can you imagine if Jesus behaved like a private health insurance provider? He would constantly be saying to people that he can't heal them because they haven't given him enough money...

As a Christian I think it is very dangerous to pick and choose from the bible because, you are correct Mental Outlaw, the New Testament is dependent upon the Old Testament and God hasn't changed from one testament to the other. I would like to ask all of you a question. Do you not pick and choose as an atheist? You say God is evil but where are you getting your standard for what is evil? I can say something is evil because I have an absolute standard on what I base evil off of which is God and what He says about himself. So where are you getting you standard of evil from?

Well let's see here. Totally speaking from a legal POV, there are laws that have been put into place that dictate right from wrong. If you break those laws, depending on the severity, you are punished accordingly.
Then there's that pesky common sense thing. People are taught right from wrong. If they choose not to use their common sense about it, then they end up getting caught and punished.

In the example I've provided above, Law sets the standard. And you don't need religion to form laws or to keep them.

As an atheist, I don't claim to say god is evil. I cannot make that sort of claim if I see no evidence of god being present anywhere.

If it can be objectively proven to help or harm, it is good or evil. The problem with getting your morality from god is that if ethics comes from anyone it's subjective by definition. whether it's a god or a human.

This argument about morality is as old an argument as any, and doesn't help any theist.

If I based my thought of evil or good on what people say then yes it would be subjective. That is the problem with saying we know what is evil and what is good from our parents or the Government/Laws. God is not a man. He is a maximumly great being because He possess all quality that are better to have to their fullest possibility. He also does not possess any negative qualities. So unlike people what He says is trustworthy and true and will never change.
We can all agree that everyone does wrong to some degree. This idea didn't come from our parents because I have three little ones at home and when they have something taken from them the express their wronged feelings. I never had to teach them that. So it isn't taught or legislated it is build in us.

Objectively if the mouse is eaten by a cat it is bad for the mouse's survival and good for the cat the cat's survival. Yet there is no out cry for the right of a mouse against a cat because it is not evil. There is however an out cry for those people who are being murdered and oppressed by other people.

I'll ask again, since you seem to have missed it. You say that one cannot cherry pick the bible. Are you okay with the rules about whom you can buy as slaves and how you can treat them?
