Atheism all over TV
#11
RE: Atheism all over TV
The lat time I saw my sister-in-law, her priest was over to the house. She introduced him as Father Dean an I said "Hello, Dean." She then spent a couple minutes haranguing me about how it's appropriate to address people by their title, so I said "I'm sorry. Hello Priest Dean." I thought she was going to have a stroke, but he was cool about it.

But I guess it's good... America needs this on such a well known tv channel. The more, the merrier, huh?

Yeah it was America this and America that. I guess I'm numb to that bias. Although, they did focus on some important southern areas. At least it wasn't Houston this, San Francisco that, Portland...huh..some third option.

On Richard Dawkins, I was surprised that he was sort of presented as the moderate type. But I guess when compared to David Silverman, it's not hard to look like the moderate.

That's some awesome personal progress!

Yes, we need it badly.
Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former.

I didn't like Silverman describing people who call themselves humanists or freethinkers as being afraid to call themselves atheists. I'm a humanist and a freethinker, and I'm not shy about calling myself an atheist. The first two terms convey more information about me to someone familiar with those terms.
I'm not anti-Christian. I'm anti-stupid.

Yeah I was uncomfortable with much of what Silverman said and his approach. Different strokes, I guess. I believe the term he used was "liars". And you're right, terms like freethinker and humanist have completely different criteria from atheist.
I can't remember where this verse is from, I think it got removed from canon:

"I don't hang around with mostly men because I'm gay. It's because men are better than women. Better trained, better equipped...better. Just better! I'm not gay."

For context, this is the previous verse:

"Hi Jesus" -robvalue
