FWIW, if you read further down, families provided an appropriate animal sacrifice in place of sacrificing their human firstborn.

Exodus 13:11-13 NKJV:

Quote:11 “And it shall be, when the Lord brings you into the land of the Canaanites, as He swore to you and your fathers, and gives it to you, 12 that you shall set apart to the Lord all that open the womb, that is, every firstborn that comes from an animal which you have; the males shall be the Lord’s. 13 But every firstborn of a donkey you shall redeem with a lamb; and if you will not redeem it, then you shall break its neck. And all the firstborn of man among your sons you shall redeem.

And if a poor family can't afford to redeem the first born son? It's killed. Like with slavery, he's making an exception to an act that should be abolished altogether.

If the gospel of Luke is to be trusted, the sacrifice was fairly inexpensive. It may have depended on the income of the parents? Or maybe Luke has it wrong:
Luke 2:22-24 RSV
Quote:22 And when the time came for their purification according to the law of Moses, they brought him up to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord 23 (as it is written in the law of the Lord, “Every male that opens the womb shall be called holy to the Lord”) 24 and to offer a sacrifice according to what is said in the law of the Lord, “a pair of turtledoves, or two young pigeons.”

The antichrist is the final dictator.
He ends up in a hot dumpster at the 2nd Coming of Jesus.
I believe he will not even get to the end of his current term.
The bible indicates the false messiah rules for 7 Biblical years and he has burned just over 6 on them so far.
From Jan. 20 2009 to Hanukkah Dec. 7 this year is exactly that amount of time.

Professor, don't you think Obama has been a little bit disappointing so far in his role as Antichrist? Isn't the Antichrist supposed to be a world leader? Aren't there supposed to be 3 years of wonderful peace followed by 3 years of horrible war?

I suspect that President Obama will become the next CEO of Microsoft and spearhead the release of Windows 13. This will signal the end of human civilization as we know it... Tongue

Yes, Watcha,  I am out of step with the traditional take on the time we are in. When events and information do not line up with tradition, it is time to walk to the beat of a different drum.

Just as Jesus was the carpenter that everyone knew, until He came back from the wilderness endued with the Holy Spirit and power-
The Impostor is incognito, and only a few know of his role and destiny.
This will change when Satan fully expresses himself in O.  He will be a different person, so to speak.
Most of Christianity is asleep,
I do not know of one single Christian leader with a well known ministry, that openly stated who O will be,
perhaps that is God's provision for their safety, or it could be that God desires he be made known only thru nobodies like myself.

I don't think the whole tribulation end times thing is part of mainstream christianity. That's why you don't see a lot of people talking about the antichrist, and trying to predict the date the world will end.

Yet you're still clinging to the rest of the tradition? How far must tradition and reality diverge before you throw away the broken drum completely?

(Subtle Discworld reference there.)
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist.  This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair.  Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second.  That means there's a situation vacant.'
