Let's Give The Muslims A Day Off

Maybe Jesus really did advocate a violent judgment on earth led by himself on his return (or resurrection, assuming the bodily reattachment to his soul was an idea perpetuated to keep the future "kingdom on earth" hope alive). But even so, that was prophesied in the context of a future event led by Jesus when he appeared again in the flesh (this should probably further indicate that he most definitely did not wander around on foot post-crucifixion). It may still be repulsive and horrifying but that's entirely different than Mohammad advocating violent revolution for the sake of Islam in his and then in each subsequent individual's lifetime.

Different, yes, but not entirely.  The consequences of both are violence in the name of a deity.  Let's not forget that when unfettered by secular humanistic values, Christianity was just as barbaric as Islam is today.

Jesus can preach non-violence and empathy until his throat is sore, but when his plan is to come back and slaughter the unbelievers, it renders anything he had to say moot.

God is obviously a sadist. Christians are not much better.

Muslims are just something to hate (the communists of our time) They are no better or worse than christians.
I reject your reality and substitute my own!

Christianity is hampered by large numbers of slackers these days when it comes to launching those good old fashioned pogroms.

Sigh . .
The granting of a pardon is an imputation of guilt, and the acceptance a confession of it.

Quote:Can a person follow the teachings of Christ and seek to violently harm another person at the same time, in the same place, in the same respect?

Sure.  Here it is...right from the horse's ....... mouth.

Quote:"Although, O sons of God, you have promised more firmly than ever to keep the peace among yourselves and to preserve the rights of the church, there remains still an important work for you to do. Freshly quickened by the divine correction, you must apply the strength of your righteousness to another matter which concerns you as well as God. For your brethren who live in the east are in urgent need of your help, and you must hasten to give them the aid which has often been promised them. For, as the most of you have heard, the Turks and Arabs have attacked them and have conquered the territory of Romania [the Greek empire] as far west as the shore of the Mediterranean and the Hellespont, which is called the Arm of St. George. They have occupied more and more of the lands of those Christians, and have overcome them in seven battles. They have killed and captured many, and have destroyed the churches and devastated the empire. If you permit them to continue thus for awhile with impurity, the faithful of God will be much more widely attacked by them. On this account I, or rather the Lord, beseech you as Christ's heralds to publish this everywhere and to persuade all people of whatever rank, foot-soldiers and knights, poor and rich, to carry aid promptly to those Christians and to destroy that vile race from the lands of our friends. I say this to those who are present, it meant also for those who are absent. Moreover, Christ commands it.

Urban II at Cleremont, as reported by Fulcher of Chartres who was there.

Let's also not forget that secular values were by and large borne out of Christian values.

For one, most of the secularists throughout the Enlightenment were raised in the Church, so many of their values were shaped by principles they had been taught as children. This includes the idea of universal human rights, whether because we are endowed with them by a Creator or because of the rationale of the Golden Rule (I'm not claiming that the Golden Rule is original with Christianity, but it certainly was its most important promotional tool). This was not an idea you found anywhere in the ancient world until Christianity:
"There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus." - Paul in Galatians.
Separation of church and state also had a basis in the teachings of Jesus:
"Render that which is of Caesar unto Caesar, and that which is of God unto God."
Those are two extremely important aspects of modern-day secular ethics that Christianity had a dominant role in shaping.

Paganism has a great deal to answer for with what is happening today.

The Enlightenment was a rejection of xtian bullshit.

The jesus freaks gave us "The Divine Right of Kings."

The Enlightenment gave us "The Declaration of the Rights of Man."

You can't blame someone for the actions of their parents plugging their ears full of bullshit while they are too young to defend themselves.  But you should not hold it against them, either.
