Unless you're going to claim that 'feline' is a kind unto itself, and say that all those animals plus cat are just one kind.

You are making the mistake of speaking truth to stark raving insensibility.

Exactly, nice of someone to notice.

To me, there's one reason alone why people believe shite like this: indoctrination. It's probably been beaten into him since a child that this is true, so reality must bend and even snap in order for it to remain true.

It must be extremely frustrating, I'm sorry to hear about it.

The oldest story about the flood was written in a language closer to ancient Hebrew than any other language, interesting you wouldn't mention that. The oldest copy of the Gilgamesh story is about 7th century BC.

God loves those who believe and those who do not and the same goes for me, you have no choice in this matter. That puts the matter of total free will to rest.

Ask him why you or anyone else should be persuaded to take the biblical flood myth more seriously than any of the others that came before or after it:

There are only a couple dozen others or so to choose from, so choose wisely.

Why are the so many flood myths? Would it be reasonable for somebody to conclude that there was actually a flood because of this? If there was a flood this does cause other problems, which Robvalue mentioned in his post:

It's simple: floods are relatively common. More common than the occasional devastating flood, however, was/is the human tendency to ascribe divine causes to weather events, vastly overexaggerate details, and if the occurrence was of such significance to a town or city's way of life, tell the subsequent generations of children and grandchildren about it with an added moral until over time the story takes a bona fide literary form.

For sure, atheists aren't denying floods have happened! Just special magical ones that don't leave any of the evidence you'd expect or make any sense when compared to reality.

I understand now. I heard somewhere that even if all of the ice on the Earth melted there wouldn't be enough water for a flood Biblical proportions. Then again, there is also lots of water hidden underground. I'm sure Theists have drawn their own conclusions from this. But Robvalue is right, there is no evidence for this. My father seems to think the prevalence of sedimentary rocks is evidence for Noah's flood (because those are the only ones in which fossils are found he said)...

Same idea. A cat is a "Kind" of animal.

At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist.  This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair.  Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second.  That means there's a situation vacant.'

Smh. The stupid things creationists say...

Per Genesis and professor "logic," what "kinds" of animals are the Eupleridae?
Or the Viverridae?
Or how about the Prionodontidae?
