Hindus clash with each other over the quality treatment of holy cows

Quote:Over 100 booked for attack on Hindu activists protesting against poor condition of cow shelter

More than 100 people, including a village, have been booked for an alleged attack on Hindu activists who were protesting against the neglect and poor condition of a cow shelter in the village, police said on Sunday.

Station House Officer (SHO) Jasvir Singh said that a case has been registered against village head of Badhai Kala, Dharmendra, and over other 100 others. He said the FIR has been lodged under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita sections 191 (rioting), 190 (member of unlawful assembly), 131 (assault or criminal force), 115 (voluntarily causing hurt), 352 (intentional insult to provoke breach of peace).

A group of Hindu activists visited the cow shelter on December 24 to protest against its alleged neglect and poor condition, then over 100 people, led by village head Dharmendra, attacked the activists and injured them during the incident

teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

400 million people are about to arrive in one place to take a bath.

Quote:The event - held once every 12 years - starts on Monday and over the next six weeks, the devout will bathe at Sangam - the confluence of India's most sacred Ganges river with the Yamuna river and the mythical Saraswati.

Hindus believe that taking a dip in the sacred river will cleanse them of sins, purify their soul and liberate them from the cycle of birth and death - as the ultimate goal of Hinduism is salvation.

About 400 million pilgrims are expected to attend the 45-day spectacle, which is so large it can be seen from space.

Authorities said that on Monday, until 4pm local time, 16 million people had taken a bath. On Tuesday, numbers are expected to exceed 20 million, and the spectacle will be special as it will see ash-smeared naked Hindu holy men with matted dreadlocks, known as Naga sadhus, take a dip at dawn.

The festival has its origin rooted in a mythological story about a fight between the gods and demons over a Kumbh (a pitcher) of nectar that emerged during the churning of the ocean.

As the two sides fought over the pot of elixir that promised them immortality, a few drops spilled over and fell in four cities - Prayagraj, Haridwar, Ujjain and Nasik.

Hindu seer Mahant Ravindra Puri said the festival this time round was "extra special" and described it as "a Maha [great] Kumbh".

"That's because the current alignment of planets and stars is identical to what existed at the moment of the spill," he told the BBC.

^ Many will contract life-threatening infections from that water. Gross.

Paintings of Hindu gods by ‘Picasso of India’ seized for being ‘offensive’

The Delhi High Court on 20 January permitted police to seize the paintings after a lawyer named Amita Sachdeva complained the artworks – featuring Hindu deities Ganesha and Hanuman alongside nude female figures – “hurt religious sentiments”.

In an X post on 13 December, Ms Sachdeva said she had taken photos of the “offensive paintings” at DAG, New Delhi (formerly Delhi Art Gallery) and filed a police complaint on 9 December after “researching past FIRs against MF Husain”.

Maqbool Fida Husain, dubbed the “Picasso of India”, was one of South Asia’s most renowned artists but no stranger to controversy, repeatedly accused of obscenity by Hindu groups for painting deities in the nude or with nude figures.

The paintings ordered seized by the court were part of an exhibition titled Husain: The Timeless Modernist, featuring 100 “pivotal works that reflect his powerful interpretations of Indian life, culture, and modernity”. It ran from 26 October to 14 December.

“The most revered entities of Sanatan Dharm, Hanuman and Ganesh, were insulted in the paintings,” the lawyer claimed. “This is obscenity. It is a deliberate and malicious attempt to insult Hindu deities. Thousands saw our deities…they were made objects of ridicule.”

Poor things, upset by pictures, if they don't like them they don't need to look at them!
The meek shall inherit the Earth, the rest of us will fly to the stars.

Never underestimate the power of very stupid people in large groups

I wonder if Usha Vance (JD's wife) will take a bath in the Ganges river during this holiest of the holy times, considering it is a very important ritual for Hindus like her. I mean, how could she pass up the opportunity to break free from the cycle of birth and death? Her husband certainly doesn't understand it.

Dozens Feared Dead in Stampede at Huge Hindu Festival in India

Many people were feared to have been killed early Wednesday after millions of Hindu pilgrims at the Maha Kumbh Mela, a huge festival in the Indian city of Prayagraj, rushed to bathe in holy river waters on what is considered one of the most auspicious dates in the Hindu calendar.

As pilgrims rushed to the confluence of the Ganges and Yamuna rivers, which Hindus consider sacred, hundreds of people who were sleeping on the river banks were trampled and a barrier broke, government officials said. Others were trying to escape after taking bathing, adding to the chaos.

Videos and photos from the scene showed people on the ground, their bodies and faces covered, and emergency personnel carrying people away on stretchers and into ambulances. Festival organizers had yet to release any casualty figures, but local news reports suggested that dozens had died.

Hindus believe that bathing at the spot where the two holy rivers meet, along with a third mythical river called Sarasvati, will purge them of all sins and help them attain salvation.

The danger posed by huge crowds has been a frequent problem at the Kumbh Mela and other religious events. In 2013, 42 people were killed and 45 injured in a crowd crush on a train platform. And in July, more than 100 people were killed and many injured during a prayer meeting organized by a local guru that officials said owed to high temperatures and overcrowding.
