I'd chalk this up to "there are abusive assholes in Germany", and it plausibly even has sexist connotations since a man shames a woman into silence. While sexism is still too common, this kind of abuse is not seen often, but that could be because I don't keep the company of people with that kind of attitude. They exist, sure, but more so than in other countries, I couldn't say...
