[split] Big Announcement and Invitation

RE: Big Announcement and Invitation
Yeah, we noticed.
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist.  This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair.  Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second.  That means there's a situation vacant.'

Quote:While the killing of even one heretic is too many, the total numbers killed was insignificant compared to the numbers murdered by the monsters of the 20th century - by which time, we humans should have been far more enlightened by freedom from the shackles of religion.

So how did that happen?

Your flippancy concerning the greatest loss of human life of all time speaks volumes about your moral compass.
It is an uncomfortable truth that we often need bad things to happen, in order to galvanise ourselves into ensuring they never happen again. In case you didn't notice, there hasn't been another World War for 70 years, thanks to the tireless peacekeeping efforts of millions of people across the world and the formation of organisations such as NATO, the UN and the EU. It has not stopped all wars, but it's stemmed the flow of bloodshed dramatically.
And please, do not suggest for a moment that the theocrats wouldn't have slaughtered heretics by the millions if they'd had access to 20th century weaponry. Save yourself a shred of dignity.

In fact we know they would.
The Ustase of Serbia were catholic death dealers killing their orthodox rivals in ways that the Nazis found a bit too vicious.

Quote:A Gestapo report to Reichsführer SS Heinrich Himmler, dated 17 February 1942, stated:

Quote:Increased activity of the bands [of rebels] is chiefly due to atrocities carried out by Ustaše units in Croatia against the Orthodox population. The Ustaše committed their deeds in a bestial manner not only against males of conscript age, but especially against helpless old people, women and children. The number of the Orthodox that the Croats have massacred and sadistically tortured to death is about three hundred thousand.[49]

Quote:The Ustaše policies against Eastern Orthodoxy are incorrectly associated with "Uniatism" in some Eastern Orthodox circles. This term has not been used by the Roman Catholic Church except for Vatican condemnation of the idea in 1990.[67] The Ustaše represented an extreme example of "Uniatism" rather based on nationalism than on religion. They supported violent aggression or force in order to convert Serbo-Croatian speaking Orthodox believers to Catholicism

Quote:Jesus was condemned to death for the blasphemy of claiming to be God (tecnically, the second person of the Trinity).

Evidence?   Oh, I know.  You read it in your stupid fucking bible.  That's not evidence.  That's the claim.  Let me know when you find some actual evidence.

Quote:But you're not so upset about that.

Because when they are caught they are punished.  Not protected.  I can't believe you are so fucking blind and/or stupid as to not comprehend the difference?  Must be that worthless catholic upbringing you've had.

You should see a shrink.   It might help you get over it.

Quote:One of the nation’s foremost authorities on the subject of the sexual abuse of minors in public schools is Hofstra University professor Charol Shakeshaft.  In 1994, Shakeshaft and Audrey Cohan did a study of 225 cases of educator sexual abuse in New York City.  Their findings are astounding.

All of the accused admitted sexual abuse of a student, but none of the abusers was reported to the authorities, and only 1 percent lost their license to teach.  Only 35 percent suffered negative consequences of any kind, and 39 percent chose to leave their school district, most with positive recommendations.  Some were even given an early retirement package.[xxxiii]

Moving molesting teachers from school district to school district is a common phenomenon.  And in only 1 percent of the cases do superintendents notify the new school district.[vi][xxxiv]  According to Diana Jean Schemo, the term “passing the trash” is the preferred jargon among educators.[xxxv]

Shakeshaft has also determined that 15 percent of all students have experienced some kind of sexual misconduct by a teacher between kindergarten and 12th grade; the behaviors range from touching to forced penetration.[viii][xxxvi]  She and Cohan also found that up to 5 percent of teachers sexually abuse children.[ix][xxxvii]

So do I.

Your anger seems a little too personal, so I thought I'd ask.

Are you equally outraged by the public school teachers who prey on our kids?

Or do you focus exclusively on Catholicism?

Public school teacher who prey on our kids are, for the most part, reported by their co-workers and supervisors, not protected by them. Your analogy fails.

Actually, no there's not.  Please stop using red to post, as that's the color of the real sheriff's department around here, and green denotes their deputies.

Also, tu quoque is my least favorite fallacy.  The fact that sex abuse exists and is covered up in other organizations doesn't change the fact that it runs extremely rampant for an organization claiming ultimate moral authority.  Your tu quoque here is pretty vile.

I wouldn't last long there because they would stupidly think attacks on bad ideas are an personal attack. I am a former Catholic myself.

Yea Catholics are concerned with civility which is why the Vatican took 400 plus years to apologize for what they did to Galileo. And how much time did they spend hiding child molesting priests? And the Pope is two faced about gays telling the west one thing and telling Asian Catholics they would "stand up for traditional Marriage". On top of constantly slamming condoms which prevent unwanted pregnancies and STDs.

RE: Big Announcement and Invitation
The problem with comparing the death tolls of Stalin et al. with those of Christianity is that while holding people accountable for believing the wrong thing is not an indispensable part of Marxism and Communism, Christianity itself is founded on the idea of a thought crime at its very heart. Supposedly billions of non-Christians will be sent to a fiery hell for the crime of not believing in Christ's redemption. And that's an inseparable part of Christian doctrine. So while communism can evolve past its bloody roots, Christianity cannot. The same 'crimes' that people died for during the church's hegemony are the same crimes it declares today: not believing.
