"There remain four irreducible objections to religious faith: that it wholly misrepresents the origins of man and the cosmos, that because of this original error it manages to combine the maximum servility with the maximum of solipsism, that it is both the result and the cause of dangerous sexual repression, and that it is ultimately grounded on wish-thinking." ~Christopher Hitchens, god is not Great

There's a new sheriff in town, boys.
Actually, no there's not. Please stop using red to post, as that's the color of the real sheriff's department around here, and green denotes their deputies.
Also, tu quoque is my least favorite fallacy. The fact that sex abuse exists and is covered up in other organizations doesn't change the fact that it runs extremely rampant for an organization claiming ultimate moral authority. Your tu quoque here is pretty vile.
Apparently, you are not reading closely.
The rate of sex abuse against minors is much higher among school teachers than it is among Catholic priests. Where's your outrage over that?
Extremely rampant? You are sadly misinformed.

Last I checked, school teachers didn't band together to shuffle abusers around to avoid punishment and impede law enforcement, so as to keep the reputation of teaching intact, nor do they claim themselves to be part of an infallible organization representing a perfect morality, so your comparison is not valid.
That said, how do you know we aren't outraged over that? We're just apportioning our outrage appropriately, given that the reaction to a teacher abusing a child is never the rest of those teachers- and people like you- closing ranks to excuse and minimize that crime.

Yea Catholics are concerned with civility which is why the Vatican took 400 plus years to apologize for what they did to Galileo. And how much time did they spend hiding child molesting priests? And the Pope is two faced about gays telling the west one thing and telling Asian Catholics they would "stand up for traditional Marriage". On top of constantly slamming condoms which prevent unwanted pregnancies and STDs.
You'll fit right in.
Protestants, Orthodox, Baha'i, Muslims, Mormons....they all have issues they want to discuss.
And that's why we're there!

I have a feeling this is not going to end well...

There are lots of former Catholics who are quite eager to prove Catholicism wrong. You'll fit right in.

This coming from a Christian? How charming.
You realize that the god you worship has condemned every human in history to death for the "sin" of the first two, right?
How's that for the "presence of theism"? In the presence of the Lord you worship, every death is attributable to him. Every single one. And that number runs into the billions, with a B.
You really should think about your beliefs before you criticize the absence of belief in others.
We can go into the mass murders your holy book says your god committed another time, too. He has certainly hastened the deaths of at least as many humans as you're complaining about here -- yet you swear obedience and fealty to him from your knees.

Where is the problem in what I said? In the absence of theism, atheists like Stalin and others killed millions in the last century alone. Where is my error?

And then paid the price for everyone of them? Yes, I realize this.

Or do you focus exclusively on Catholicism?
The focus on religious criminals is perfectly apt.
After all, your own Jesus said:
Quote:16 By their fruit you will recognize them. Do people pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles?
17 Likewise, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit.
18 A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit.
19 Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.
20 Thus, by their fruit you will recognize them.
A faith which both produces leaders who molest children, and hide the criminals who molest children, is a rotten faith.
If you're too blind to understand the words of your Christ, then you too belong in the fire, if one actually exists.
This is but one more example of how Christianity rots morality.
(May 17, 2015 at 1:14 pm)Randy Carson Wrote: Dr. Thomas Plante, a psychologist at Santa Clara University, found that “80 to 90% of all priests who in fact abuse minors have sexually engaged with adolescent boys, not prepubescent children. Thus, the teenager is more at risk than the young altar boy or girls of any age."
This is homosexuality - not pedophilia - and the media does not want to report this fact.
Forgive me, my hair-splitter is at the shop for sharpening. The fact is, an adult assfucking a teenager is still a crime. That is not "homosexuality" -- that is homosexual priests molesting minors.
And that makes me wonder -- do you disagree with the Church's position that homosexuality is a sin, or, as your own Bible says, an "abomination"? Why do you defend sinners who not only commit "abomination", but do so upon minor children who both legally and sensibly cannot give informed consent -- and then pretend that it's not what it is?
You have a very, very detailed delineation of right and wrong. I wonder why it is that the line between right and wrong, in your mind, seems to depend on who is doing the wrong?
I'm thinking you've got a bunch of double-standards that cannot stand up to scrutiny. Therefore, I'm looking forward to your answer, because while my hair-splitter is in the shop, my scalpel is nice and oiled.
Explain yourself in a coherent fashion.
