What Exactly Does the Holy Spirit Do?

When I was younger, I was under the impression that the holy spirit was the omnipresent part of god. He was the part that was everywhere at once, and communicated to the Lord proper. Yahweh is the all knowing part, and Jesus is the all powerful part. With their powers combined, they are the One True God.

What does the Holy Spirit do? When I was a Christian, I had a vague idea that H.S was the method that god and Jesus used to interact with living Christians but I have heard the term used in a variety of ways that are confusing.

For instance..."I am filled with the Holy Spirit" typically means that someone is in a very good mood. Some people use the word Holy Spirit as a synonym for their ability to determine right or wrong. They might claim that they are less inclined to do wrong because of the presence of the Holy Spirit in their lives.


Because Christians are no worse or better than non Christians, what proof do those of you who are religious  have that something like the H.S really exists? What is the H.S and how do you believe it interacts with humans? Do you think that H.S makes Christians less inclined to do wrong than non Christians?

The Holy Spirit is the power of God on Earth. Explaining further would have no meaning to anyone who has no concept of God in a spiritual sense.

With the Councils of Nicaea and Constantinople in AD 325 and 381, respectively, the church affirmed that the Holy Spirit is not just a force or a name for the power of God, but is a personal being. Furthermore, He is not a creation of the Father or the Son, but is equally divine with them.

The JWs believe that the holy spirit is "god's active force."  In other words, it's god's supernatural power or energy, which he uses for everything from creating the universe to smiting evildoers to impregnating virgin women to influencing men to write a shitty book.  There are any number of ways to describe it, anything from "god's essence" to "god's superpowers."  The Bible is pretty ambiguous regarding the holy spirit, so you can define it a number of ways.  It is anthropomorphized in some verses, and some denominations regard it as a separate personality or being.

No.... to all of that! Its purely, and simply the Power of God! Its at our disposal. But, who knows how, and when to use it? Only those who know God. And that is an illusive quest of spiritual proportions. How does one open a safe without the combination? You need to go to the builder of that safe! How do you explain the unexplainable? You don't! Without seeking for yourself, you won't know anythng.

People can say, and do whatever they want. Truth is found on our own.... Not by people telling us anything.

What does the Holy Spirit do for me? Nothing that would benefit your mind. What does the Holy Spirit do for others? Haven't a clue!
