Anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that 'my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge.' -Isaac Asimov-

Its a one word answer.... but you can, and will carry-on I'm sure!

I would have said "ignorance," but then I realized that ignorance is one of few reasons to believe in a god and sin and all that crap in the first place.

Can we get to already?

What one word will appease your imaginary deity, for imaginary insults against him, to save us from an imaginary afterlife of eternal suffering?

You'd believe if you just opened your heart" is a terrible argument for religion. It's basically saying, "If you bias yourself enough, you can convince yourself that this is true." If religion were true, people wouldn't need faith to believe it -- it would be supported by good evidence.

John 9:

41 Jesus said unto them, If ye were blind, ye should have no sin: but now ye say, We see; therefore your sin remaineth.

Of course, it is a silly thing.

"A wise man ... proportions his belief to the evidence."

God has a get out of jail free card and he only ever mentions it once in a book?

See, it's crud like this that's why none of us accept the "God is all loving and really wants you to not go to hell" claim.

So, you're going to destroy atheism with a one word answer to a question that presupposes the truth of your specific brand of christianity, are you?
