I don't know if my children are a good example of their age group but I've noticed that they and their friends have a much wider range of music that they enjoy than I did at their age. They like classical music, Japanese pop music, regular pop music, heavy metal, whatever type of music the singer Voltaire sings and 'gothic country'.( Yes, there is such a thing as gothic country.) Although I listed Japanese pop music, they listen to music from many countries via youtube. Because of the Fallout series, they also have discovered some older music that they enjoy too.

When I was there age, I liked pop and some heavy metal. I'm amazed by my children's appreciation for such a wide range of music.

The music is what I remember most of the 90s, because my parents had me when they were still quite young themselves so we always had current music playing. Five, Spice Girls, Savage Garden, All Saints, The Prodigy, we had the whole lot haha. My Mum loved her music so much when she was younger.

@Nope - I think that is because our generation has much easier access to a wider range of music than ever before. We can go onto the internet and find music from other countries quite easily. The spread of Korean pop is a good example of this, I'm not really into K-Pop myself, but a lot more people my age listen to it than people from older generations would have listened to Asian music.

I listened exclusively to radio pop songs until I hit 14. After that, I started listening to everything before the 2000's. I listened to a lot of rock, ranging from pop rock (Queen and other similar bands) to hard rock, heavy metal, some punk rock, alternative, indie, experimental, progressive rock, some hip hop (mostly early 90's and Eminem), some pop musicians, and lately I've been listening to classical. I consider myself open to different kinds of music. I would be a fool to say rock isn't my favourite genre of music - It is, I have about 20GB of just rock musicians, whether it's the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, Alice in Chains, Metallica (I consider metal to be rock, and it is), Queens Of The Stone Age, etc.

Lately my favourite bands and the ones I can't let go are the Queens Of The Stone Age, Red Hot Chili Peppers (cool to like them, but unpopular to have them as a favourite), Alice In Chains and ironically the Beatles - I never listened to a lot of Beatles songs aside from the popular ones but lately I've been getting into them (listening the whole albums) and I'm considering buying limited editions/collections. I also love metal, specially older bands like Iron Maiden and Metallica or even Slayer, but never got into Black Sabbath.

I think part of my adolescence was marked by a sense of rebellion, far greater than my peers - Everyone listened to what's popular, so I started listening to Grunge and 60's rock or crazy guitar solos from the 70's - It was great... Nowadays I find myself not enjoying so much bands I used to love (like Nirvana, yay rebellious adolescence!) but many of them still hold a place in my heart.

As for 2000's music, I would say The Foo Fighters, Muse, Radiohead, Alter Bridge, Queens Of The Stone Age, Arctic Monkeys and The Strokes have made good contributions to music - It's hard to list all the artists out there, but those are mainstream reasonably successful rock bands that could probably take the title of "best 2000's band". I used to listen to a lot of Linkin Park - Nowadays I don't enjoy them so much. I'm not a fan of Muse (but I like Radiohead) - I don't see the appeal, but I respect the band.

OK I know it's an older thread and you hate "resurrections" but I got to give my tribute to 00's! Back in the day when this was considered a movie and people actually went to see it and companies exploited it to sell stuff from tampons to mobile phones.


Back when Freddie Prinze Jr. had a career along with other actors that are now forgotten. Back in the days when people saw last video-stores. Also last days of numerous magazines. I remember buying this movie magazine every month and also every month winning giveaways because not very much people were buying it. I mean for the first time I was actually winning giveaways, although always some shitty stuff like "Equilibrium" on VHS. Yes those were also the last days of VHS. So many things died in that decade, although lots of stuff got born, but death is much more memorable.
