RE: Answers needed
I really don't get you christians.  When I was a christian I never thought about going on a forum of like minded atheists and attempt to change ALL of their beliefs with some stupid ass questions.

In fact the opposite was true, when religion was failing me for the umpteenth time, I came here for logical answers.  If I wanted more biblical answers I would have repeated what I had done my entire life.

Do you like to fight?

Do you really think you can convert us?

What is the conversion rate you christians have on this forum?

There are some pretty damn smart people here and they are more than kind sharing their thoughts on any given subject.  Just let them be who they are and quit with the same old shit every christer has to say.  Angry

Thank you for not giving me a headache. Of course the prophecy came true; it goes with the territory. As I write this I really should be in the arms of Morpheus (and not in his arse - my mobile's autocorrect has a sense of humour) - anyway I'll have to get back to all this when it's more convenient.

In the meantime I strongly advise you to learn what atheism actually is unless you want to draw a ton of flak. Start by asking what we believe, instead of telling us. That's just plain rude.
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist.  This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair.  Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second.  That means there's a situation vacant.'

From my viewpoint, God is a necessary part of creation, given the complexity of cellular life ("irreducible complexity") and the absence of intermediary species.

Most atheists will tell you that, yes. Atheism on its own, however, is just the answer to one question: do you have a belief in god.

You really need to do some research on evolution. If you are starting at the point where you think irreducible complexity (a point Michael Behe was bitchslapped in Federal Court with a stack of papers disproving every single point he made) or transitional fossils, you literally have no idea what you're even arguing against.

ETA: Talkorigins is a wonderfully cited website, if you're interested in honestly learning about what you have dismissed out of hand.
"There remain four irreducible objections to religious faith: that it wholly misrepresents the origins of man and the cosmos, that because of this original error it manages to combine the maximum servility with the maximum of solipsism, that it is both the result and the cause of dangerous sexual repression, and that it is ultimately grounded on wish-thinking." ~Christopher Hitchens, god is not Great

Natural selection is usually only applied to individuals though. Murder is often good for the survival of an individual. Why do so many people not want to murder (since you brought up the topic). Why would you care about the life of another person, presuming you could get away with it?

Natural selection and evolution in general applies to populations. Some humans don't care about other peoples lives, but if that persons genes become dominate in the population, it will go extinct. A population where people naturally work together is going to be the most prosperous. We are part of the population that was the most prosperous since we are not extinct.

To be fair they earnestly believe we just haven't given this topic much thought. They are told that atheists just hate god and need the right questions asked or answers given and they'll be believers of the strongest kind.

Then they waltz in here to find that we know more about the Bible than they do.

So utterly incorrect. Selection works on populations. Individuals do not evolve, populations do.

Murder is not good for the individual human. We live in societies, we are social animals. Murders attract attention, come with the near inevitability of extremely negative consequences, none of which are good for the propagation of our genes. This is not true with him or me situations. Which is why our society developed a self-defense caveat.

And be careful. You are intimating that the only reason you don't murder is that you don't think you'd get away with it.

"Murder is not good for the individual human." Murder could help rid societies of defective genes. It could rid societies of unproductive dependents. It would also allow the murderer to acquire the murdered person's goods.

BTW. I don't murder because my God-given conscience restrains me and because God tells me not to.

I don't think anyone so far suggested a universal standard of morality.  Human morality changes with time, country, and place.  And it is human centric.  Some animals appear to have a sense of fairness, altruism, and duty, or in other words morality.  It is centric to that species.

Morality is the product of evolution in social species.
If there is a god, I want to believe that there is a god.  If there is not a god, I want to believe that there is no god.

He's told plenty of other people to murder, apparently.
