Catholics are victims of marriage equality (apparently)

RE: Catholics are victims of marriage equality (apparently)
Why would they even think about somebody else's marriage though? Why would you need to tell us your view on it? Are you a man who married a woman? Huh, gay marriage must not be your thing. Are you a man who married a man? Hmm, must like gay marriage then. What sex do you want to marry? That should be as far as you think about the issue.
I can't remember where this verse is from, I think it got removed from canon:

"I don't hang around with mostly men because I'm gay. It's because men are better than women. Better trained, better equipped...better. Just better! I'm not gay."

For context, this is the previous verse:

Either way having a gay friend doesn't mean you can't be homophobic, in the same way a white person having a black friend doesn't mean they are above slipping up and saying racist shit.

Another point they made is being afraid to voice their opinions because someone might call them a bigot. Well, if you're really afraid of that, maybe you should review those beliefs.

Before Dystopia objects, no believing a non traditional marriage is wrong is not bigotry. Believing there is something wrong with someone for how they were born and they should be denied a fundamental right because they were born that way is bigotry. Unfortunately, the two frequently go hand-in-hand.

Yeah, there's several things going on here, but none of them are about disagreement in and of itself.

It is amusing to see people who, culturally, never had their beliefs challenged in the marketplace of ideas suddenly find that people aren't just going to blindly accept them any longer.

To be fair, "bigot" has become one of those fashionable buzzwords people love to throw around to shut down debate. However, in this particular instance the anti-gay marriage crusade really is textbook bigotry by very definition of bigotry;

"intolerance towards those who hold different opinions from oneself."

There's also no such thing as traditional marriage which I'm getting sick of explaining to Christians. Like Christmas, Easter, the idea of a divine mother and baby, marriage and pretty much everything else, this religion is once again appropriating culture from older civilisations and claiming it as their own tradition.

I think you can't (unprovoked anyway) be bigoted against religion, especially if the religion in question is either Christianity or Islam. Both of these religions are inherently bigoted ideologies in themselves, so speaking out in disagreement against them is not bigotry unless it's unprovoked.

The only traditional marriage I can understand is the kind that fosters and/or maintains alliances and increases land holdings. Anything else is really just code for "I let the bible do my thinking for me, and I think butt stuff is icky."

Well a traditional Christian marriage (if one exists) is the same as a Muslim marriage; selling your 13 year old daughter off to a stranger in exchange for 3 goats. No refunds. Times have changed.

And yes, "I can't think for myself and have to be spoon-fed morals". Christian logic.

Nah gonna need 72 virgins in exchange for my 3 dragons, dragons are too valuable and 71 virgins just aren't enough for me.

Don't want to support gay marriage? Don't, it's your freedom. Do you want to support it? Then do it. I'm not a proponent of labelling anyone as a bigot just because they don't agree with you, otherwise my entire family and half of my friends would be bigots and I would be fighting them every fucking time we argue about something. Regardless of how anyone feels, and I know most of us support gay marriage, there's no doubt that in liberal politics circles anyone who doesn't agree with liberals is a bigot and a fascist, that's been proven over and over and over again.

IF someone could explain me what I'm missing I'd appreciate it - Thanks in advance

(July 3, 2015 at 8:57 pm)Dystopia Wrote: I think I can fairly understand their point - And IMO this is mostly a reaction to liberal circles labelling anyone who does not agree with them as a homophobe. You can't deny that happens since it does happen at some point and ad hominems are not rare (to be fair both conservatives and liberals use them as often). People's brains work differently - I'm interested in knowing why other people think differently than me, but I can't comprehend it scientifically so it's hard for me to judge them. I may be missing something but the only thing I understand is that they're saying they can hold the view gay marriage is wrong, which is obvious in Catholicism, it's a no-brainer - The pope is against gay marriage - It's not a surprise they're promoting their agenda, it's very predictable.

Do you think that someone who is against interracial marriage is a bigot?  And is so against it that they wish for it to be illegal?

This may be of help; here is the definition of "bigot":

Quote:bigot

A person who is intolerant towards those holding different opinions

http://www.oxforddictionaries.com/defini...ctCode=all

Now, what would you call someone who wants to impose his or her view on others by law, preventing them from marrying someone they wish to marry?  Is that being tolerant of others' opinions, or is it being intolerant of them?

Now, if the same-sex marriage supporters were insisting that all marriages must be same-sex by law, then, that, too, would be intolerant of others.  But I have not encountered such a person yet.  Some times one side of an issue is full of bigots, and the other side is not.  Pretending otherwise does not change the facts.
