Haha, very true! But it's still a sexual act.

But not nearly so delectable. Masturabtion is to good love-makin' as McDonald's is to good home-cookin' ... a dreadfully pale imitation.

This is from Steve on the UK sitcom Coupling:

"If music be the food of love, then masturbation is just a snack between meals."

RE: What do the theists here think about masturbation and porn?
So you're a God and you are designing humans. This appears to be the thought process:

1. I need there to be a unfixed number of humans at any one time. They cannot just pop into existence. I also want there to be different humans at different times, rather than keep the same ones around forever.

2. Therefore they have to be destroyed, which I will call death. I will make it a pretty horrible process just because. I will also allow an arbitrary number of humans to be able to produce more humans. 2 seems like a good number.

3. Now how should these 2 humans be able to produce another human? How about I design it so that if they both really want another human, they could just wish for it? That way only pairs of humans who really want a child can have one. Afterall, it would be stupid for people who don't want children to have one.

3. Scrap that idea, I'll give them a powerful internal drive to do a process which involves them rubbing on each other. This process will give them great pleasure but also produce a child. This is the best possible design, and won't ever result in people who don't want children having them. Also I'll make a few of the humans faulty, so that some couples can't have the children they want.

4. To make up for all my poor design, I will make rules that they cannot rub on each other unless they first get someone to do the administration and get them to both sign a piece of paper, which allows them to have sex, but is mainly concerned with family assets.

5. I'll make the process of producing a new human particularly painful, again because I can (and I hate women). I'll also make sure they take years to reach adulthood, again for no good reason. Quite a few will die before this, again because I like to see a bit of suffering.

6. Since I had to introduce the concept of death earlier on and this is a bit mean, people that die will actually live on forever. I could have not bothered with steps 1-5 at all, but by this point it should be clear I've no idea what I'm doing.

7. Some of these humans didn't get the piece of paper signed before they rubbed themselves on each other. I will torture them forever, else my brilliant design just looks stupid. Despite this they all seem to ignore this rule but pretend to each other they haven't.

8. Some of these humans have also discovered that they can rub themselves for pleasure. How dare they. Eternal torture for them too.

How should I know what theists here think about when they masturbate to porn?

Judging from all the expose reporting of fallen preachers and republicans, it must be about furtively enjoying something taboo.

If the only time the male "should" ejaculate is inside his wife and without contraception (am I understanding Catholicism?) then there is a significant risk of pregnancy every single time (assuming both are fertile of course).

This leaves the following scenarios:

1- The man gets to ejaculate only a few times in his whole life, which has dangerous side effects. I assume CL and her husband can't have had sex many times without resulting in children... I'm not expecting an answer!

2- You have a fuck ton of children.

3- Lots of lies between spouses about the level of masturbation going on in private.

4- Getting around these rules on technicalities, in which case you may as well not have them.

Please correct me if I'm wrong. All of these seem very bad scenarios and have moral issues of their own.

Well a woman is only fertile for about 3-4 days out of the month, so avoiding that is really not so bad. And fertility monitoring actually does work really well! I had a little machine that would tell me when I was and was not fertile, so we simply didn't have sex on the fertile days. My husband and I have successfully avoided pregnancy for the first 4 years of our marriage. It isn't until now that we're actually trying. Wink

I don't think preachers and Republicans do these things more than other people lol... it's just that when they do, it becomes headline news because they failed to follow what they preach.
"Of course, everyone will claim they respect someone who tries to speak the truth, but in reality, this is a rare quality. Most respect those who speak truths they agree with, and their respect for the speaking only extends as far as their realm of personal agreement. It is less common, almost to the point of becoming a saintly virtue, that someone truly respects and loves the truth seeker, even when their conclusions differ wildly."
