I haven't read all nine pages of this thread, so someone may already have mentioned this, but what I really want to know is why the Christians have to impinge on the rights of others to uphold their faith.  If they don't like contraceptives, fine, don't take them, but why deny them to people who don't believe in a god that thinks abortion is evil?  Same thing with homosexuality.  If you don't like it, fine, don't get into gay relationships, but what business is it of yours what other people do with their lives?

Basically, most religionists are fascists who wish to control everything everyone does.  It is, in fact, a part of most religions, to be fascists and force others to comply.  Otherwise, they would do as you suggest.

It's like a reflex for them. Given they have so little respect for anyone else's autonomy, they can't help but shove their own beliefs down everyone else's throats, all while never forgetting to whine about how persecuted they are.

I guess if they don't oppose it, they are seen to "endorse" it, and they're worried what their loving God (and neighbours) will do to them.

In all seriousness, how can anyone defend this? Some of you seem to think that a person's religious convictions are SO sacred and inviolable that it's acceptable for them to be honored even to the point that it harms (or at least inconveniences) other members of a pluralistic society. If you think that way, go get fucked by a bilge snipe.
