Options for origin of universe

RE: Options for origin of universe
You guys are great!
Can we sticky this on the religion sub-forum in an attempt (which will fail for the majority) to keep the theists a bit more aware of our real options, instead of the ones they like to make up?

I was thinking more in terms of us being stuck right in the middle of what we are supposedly observing, so we can't view it externally/objectively. We are instead creating our own realities inside our head... our consciousness appears to already be a possible example of 2:1 on my list.

I could have been a philosopher and a scientist you know, I just lack the beard and the brain. So I play video games and kill stuff instead.

Rob, that's not true! If you lacked a brain you'd be a JW or a Mormon.
All I know is you have more than one brain cell, because you can't become a schizophrenic with just one. Shy

I think this is a good idea. It's a subject where false dichotomies are used all the time.

Thanks for your commentary Alex! I'm glad I'm not just being weirdly cynical.

I do have two brain cells, but it can take a while because they tend to disagree on everything and are very stubborn.

On the contrary. The universe is expanding at an ever faster rate which means that something must be entering the universe pushing it apart. But if there is no outside of the universe then whatever is pushing the universe apart must be created within it from nothing.  I therefore firmly believe that meetings at work go slowly because time is literally being created. Being the centre of the universe we're at the heart of the influx so time is slowing down for us, but consequently it looks like the edges of the universe are expanding faster. This hastens the heat death of the universe and if we don't cut down on meetings, boring lectures and dead end jobs then we'll soon find our very own atoms ripped apart in a heat death.

By sitting bored at my desk at work and typing this post I am literally polluting the space-time continuum.

Maybe if we all focus our boredom on the point where time originates, we could make time go backwards?

That's what created the Big Bang.

No. If you would like to know how this works in relativity I'm happy to elaborate, but nothing needs to enter or push into anything.

That's first of all not true, but also has little to do with my original quote

Stretched maybe Smile

Actually, that could be the fault of some new form of dark energy

How about this. You merely like the idea of sky hero protecting you?

If you rightfully reject the idea of Allah filling in the gap, and Thor being the cause of lightening, what makes you think your gap answer would fill it any better?
