Also, thank goodness the members you listed aren't truly representative; I find most of you vile and all of you delusional.
He did not say what people can do. He merely made a request. Everyone, of course, is free to ignore his request if they wish to do so.
Anyway, I think his basic point is correct (not something I ever thought I would be posting), that if one wishes to learn about a particular church's doctrine, asking those who happen to show up here is not the most reliable way to get accurate information.

Yes, I agree. Just because I haven't seen it does prove it doesn't exist.

While I tend to agree with Chad's premise, I personally don't have a problem. Quite certainly they can get the information by searching for it but I think the intentions (at least for most) are to start a discussion or engagement on an inquiry or point of contention not necessarily pick a fight or poke fun. I don't have a problem with it and I choose to either engage or not based on what appears to be the motive.

I don't see a problem with asking theists questions. I think this forum is generally incredibly accommodating, and people offer a lot of opportunities for theist input. We could simply say "Fuck off with your fairy stories, this is an atheist forum" and ignore you all completely. I don't want to do that, I want healthy discussion for everyone.
What I do agree with is to not consider the answers we get here from theists to be representative, but that's a matter of common sense. We have a very small sample and some very extreme views on display. I would be embarrassed too by the way Christianity and Islam gets "represented" here. But those with two brain cells to rub together know what we see here is not the norm.
Also, no theists are obliged to answer the questions; nor should members be discouraging them from doing so if they want to.

When I ask for theists' opinions on something, I'm asking the theists on this forum (reference the divorce thread title). If I want the opinion of some other theist, I'll ask some other theist - trust me, I can throw a rock down my street and hit practically any stripe of theist I want.
That being said, there are some basic tenets of every franchise of theism. I really don't see the problem with asking the believers on this board to explain or defend these basic tenets.

Thanks, robvalue! That sounds like an interesting idea. Maybe I should start doing that...
