Explain your avatar

RE: Explain your avatar
My avatar was selected because I wanted something that would make one think of ancient Greece, which befits my name.  It also is supposed to represent wine, women, and song (which I did not immediately realize when I selected it), and as I like wine, women, and song, it suits me well enough.

Mine is a pic of my Nanners, on a stormy night, when he was scared and crawled into bed with me like a toddler. He nestled his muzzle in the crook of my arm and promptly fell asleep. It is my favorite picture of him.
"There remain four irreducible objections to religious faith: that it wholly misrepresents the origins of man and the cosmos, that because of this original error it manages to combine the maximum servility with the maximum of solipsism, that it is both the result and the cause of dangerous sexual repression, and that it is ultimately grounded on wish-thinking." ~Christopher Hitchens, god is not Great

It always looks to me like the guy in the middle is taking the other guys out at the neck, Assassin's Creed style.

(August 6, 2015 at 11:28 am)Exian Wrote: This is from one of my earlier threads where I was deciding on an avatar. Here's the reason I gave then. Shouldn't have changed much.

Quote:I ended up going with Howard the Duck. Here's why:

A few months back, my daughter and I picked up Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2. The story of the game covers two big events in the comics: The Secret Wars and The Civil Wars. Two story arcs I haven't read, so I did some reading up.

Oh SPOILERS!!! I guess.

At the end of the Civil Wars, it's decided to assign a government sanctioned Avengers Team to each state, in what's called the 50 States Initiative. Each team is made up of superheroes who have registered with the government. Having read this, my daughter and I got super excited because this means Ohio must have its own Avengers Team. How flippin cool! So I find a web page with the list of states and their assigned Avengers Team. New York has The Mighty Avengers lead by Iron-Man, New Jersey has the Last Defenders-- this is getting pretty exciting. My daughter and I are speculating who we think we got as we scroll through.

Finally, we get to Ohio and who do we have? Howard the Duck...and we don't have a team name...

So we adopted our northeast Ohio sports mentality and decided to love him no matter how terrible it is. And we do.

So for an atheist forum, I thought it would be appropriate to have my avatar be my own personal and state wide savior, Howard the Duck. Cleveland needs a hero.

I've updated it since. I found a nice piece of line work from the creator and decided to use that as the base for my avatar. I drew it up, colored it, and animated it in a program called PyxelEdit. Lots of fun. I've made a few more for the kids, and even made a Toothless gif for my big Sis.

Now you have me wondering who is looking over us in California .. the governator?

I found a larger version to look at, so you can see it better:

The one on the left is playing a flute or pipe of some kind, and the one on the right is carrying a container of either grapes or wine, while holding a horn-shaped cup (which might be made from a horn).  The figure in the middle is a woman. It looks like she is joining in on the music, with little cymbals (or some such instruments) in her hands.  Notice that the figures on the right and left are not human, but are some kind of divine beings.

The official model for Psi-Judge Anderson from the Judge Dredd stories - in the official replica uniform.

Like the story and the character.

Extra bonus that she has my surname.
