I wonder if it would run afoul of ebay's TOS if one were to sell one's soul to say, ten thousand different people for $5 each? Thinking

How about selling fractional ownership?

Why not just attach it to an email and save shipping costs?

Yeah, but I'd sell mine for the greatest lead guitar skills of all time and get all the babes. Nobody gave a shit about Michael Anthony because Eddie got all the attention. Big Grin

The problem I see with this is that by default he already gets everyone's soul. You have to beg god not to send you to hell, during your lifetime, or you go to hell.

It's not like a contract keeps you from being saved, either. Supposedly Jesus can still save you, even after you make a contract in these stories, unless I'm wrong. So what's the point of these stories about contracts in exchange for something the devil already gets by default?

These stories are based on the idea that "good people Goto Heaven and bad people Goto Hell." When according to God's standard. There are no "good people."

The point is to show or demonstrate a basic lack of the core principles of Christianity. They also (in their original time, )explained away how/why bad or non religious people became successful while the faithful did not.

That said the devil does make alliances with people, but not for their souls (as Hell is not his kingdom, but his prision/He is in torment there just like everyone else) this world is the closest thing he has to a kingdom. He makes deals to try and obtain power and rule. He tried this with Christ in his tempting him.

That's how I was raised, and why I never feared hell. It was a more toned down version, because it's harder to sell the idea of Jesus being a good guy if you stress the idea of everyone burning for eternity by default.

From a Biblical perspective your question has a false premise.  Satan doesn't "get" anyone's soul.  Hell is a place of punishment for both the unbeliever(Rev. 20:13-14) and for Satan (Rev. 20:10).  It's not a place where he is the king, it's a place for his eternal torment as well.

That being said.  The Bible says that the god of this world is Satan (2 Cor 4:4).  That is confirmed when Satan tempts Jesus.  He offers him all the kingdoms of the earth (Luke 4:6) [implying Satan has been given authority over them].  When people [namely in the entertainment industry] claim to have "sold their soul" to the devil it's more of a contract than a literal exchange [though I'd bet some people believe their soul is gone].  Two schools of thought here.  First is that it is a metaphor or sensationalism.  The person is simply stating that they are willing to abandon God, morality, personal will etc. for fame and fortune.  They're willing to do whatever it takes to make it to the top.  The second is more literal.  Some people claim to have made a blood oath to serve Satan [in some occult ritual] and in this way have received supernatural power [from Satan] in order to get fame and fortune.  Among these people would be those artists who claim to be possessed by spirits during their performances.

I do agree with your point that there is no sin, no sale of soul that the blood of Christ cannot forgive [with two exceptions Mark 3:29, Rev. 14:9-11].  To speculate further, I imagine there are two kinds of people who head down this road.  People who start down the road, regret it, but believe they are too far gone, and those people who start down the road, learn what it really means, and love it.  Both break my heart.

If it could be proven beyond doubt that God exists...
and that He is the one spoken of in the Bible...
would you repent of your sins and place your faith in Jesus Christ?
