Thank you for sharing your story. I understand feeling bad about the religious preaching you did in the past, but try not to beat yourself up about it. You were doing what you thought was right at the time, with the beliefs you felt you had; you were genuinely confused and didn't then know it was bullshit and your own subconscious motivations. We've all done things that make us cringe when we look back on them. The important thing is you have learned from it and moved forward to become (clearly) a better person. The fact you even feel bad about it shows you are a good person. Bad people don't care.

I'm very glad atheism has been good for you, although I'm sorry you have to hide it and put with up with religious bullshit. You're totally right, religious is a crock of shit made up by men who wanted to control people. Even at its roots, this is obvious.
