Would the arbiters of all the debate and logic rules insist in this example the school teacher and the TSA agent be the same person ?

(serious question, I'm trying to do better with all the post ad hocter, substitution fallacy, strawman stuff, and I think this an example of another one, thanx)

Judging from one instance is unreasonable, and so she needs more than just that.  My guess is, though, that she has more life experience and more observations than just what is specified.

Of course, a teacher is not a TSA agent as you say.

Really, though, I do not think the intention of the post was to provide a proof at all, but just to provide an example of differences in treatment.  And if that is the case, then there is no fallacious reasoning demonstrated at all.

This showed up in The Daily Kos today.

Interesting point of view.

Quote:Great Post Sent to Me Today

I said: it's sad they thought that kid had a bomb.
She said: they didn't think he had a bomb.
I said: yes, they thought he made a bomb and even called the police.
She said: They just wanted to humiliate a little Muslim boy. They didn't think he had a bomb.
I said: Don't be a conspiracy theorist. They might be a little prejudiced, but I'm sure they thought he had a bomb.
She said: OK.
But they didn't evacuate the school, like you do when there's a bomb.
They didn't call a bomb squad - like you do when there's a bomb.
They didn't get as far away from him as possible, like you do when there's a bomb.
Then they put him and the clock in an office: not like you do when there's a bomb
Then they waited with him for the police to arrive, and then they put the clock in the same car as the police.
Then they took pictures of it.
I said: Damn.....They never thought he had a bomb.

EQUAL RIGHTS are HUMAN RIGHTS
The Irving PD, & the School Admin will be rightfully sued.
They can now pay Ahmed's way to MIT.
Thanks.

Well, unfortunately for the dailykos, the kid was charged with having a "hoax bomb." They didn't think he had a bomb. They thought he had a fake bomb.

Oddly, what has been coming out of the woodwork are kids who brought homemade clocks to schools and did not get arrested...or even questioned.

Of course....none of them were named "Mohammed."

Perhaps this is mere coincidence?

If you see something. Say something. Unless its a Muslim cause then you're a racist. I'm sure we all feel safer knowing that people will be less likely to report suspicious behaviour when a Muslim does it.

If CAIR didn't set this up they should have. Its a brilliant way to get your victims to willingly overlook your actions.

Yeah, because everybody is running around saying, "No one should hold Muslims accountable for anything!"  Jerkoff

The lesson to learn here couldn't possibly be that teachers shouldn't have students arrested over something they can't even recognize, and it most certainly isn't that non-whites are treated differently, is it? Sometimes I wonder how you dress yourself in the morning, Chad.

@Min.,  I'm not saying race and religion didn't play a role here, but let's at least get our facts straight.  I did read in one article, though, that one of the cops that the kid had never seen before said, "That's who I thought it was," when he walked in the room.

I wish the school had done that before calling the cops..... but it is Texas, after all.

You probably didn't get handcuffed whisked away to a holding cell and threatened with charges of manufacturing a bomblike device.

They might have, if I'd brought in a bomb-looking device.

If he'd brought in a bomb-looking device... orrrr if he hadn't built a working clock that he wanted to show off in the first place.

Ask him!

They claim they thought it was a "hoax bomb". Why? Was he not sitting there, going, "Hey no it's a clock. See? It tells time. I made it."?

That means they sat in a room with the device, knowing it was not an explosive, and refused to believe him that he had built a clock, himself. They sat there with him in the room and called the police on him because they just couldn't believe a little brown Muslim had done something smarter than their own capacities.
A Christian told me: if you were saved you cant lose your salvation. you're sealed with the Holy Ghost

I replied: Can I refuse? Because I find the entire concept of vicarious blood sacrifice atonement to be morally abhorrent, the concept of holding flawed creatures permanently accountable for social misbehaviors and thought crimes to be morally abhorrent, and the concept of calling something "free" when it comes with the strings of subjugation and obedience perhaps the most morally abhorrent of all... and that's without even going into the history of justifying genocide, slavery, rape, misogyny, religious intolerance, and suppression of free speech which has been attributed by your own scriptures to your deity. I want a refund. I would burn happily rather than serve the monster you profess to love.

A hoax bomb, like a real bomb, needs something that is supposed to be the explosive part.  Electronics are not bombs.  They can be used as a part of a bomb, but not being explosives, they cannot be a bomb on their own.  Anyone with even a basic understanding of electronics knows that electronics are not bombs.  So even if you have no clue what some circuit board does, you can know that it is not, by itself, a bomb.
