Revenge?
or Correction?
False dichotomy.
It can also be for separating people from society that cannot be "corrected" but which still present a danger to the rest of society.

Over here? Revenge. We've long since thrown out any idea of "correction."

That the person is now older should have no bearing on whether or not they go to prison, IMO. As I understand it, they're not going after him for murder... no evidence for it... and the testimony of a child regarding a special spice can't carry much weight...

I'd say it is primarily there to protect the innocent from dangerous people, at least in the case of more severe crimes.

Until you guys give me his conviction that he did molest others and, maybe, kill others, or a psych report showing that he may still do that; I'm looking at it from the point of view that he only did that one thing to that family. And then lived out his life in quiet solitude, or whatever... no harm to society for 25 years.

The justice system is about ensuring that justice is served. Rehabilitation is only part of the equation, and just becuase rehabilitation may not be possible, that is not a reason to prevent a child predator from answering for his crimes in a court of law.

That should be great consolation to his victims.

Have you or your siblings had your own arsenic levels checked? Did you get the same spice?
We did when we were young after the discovery in the autopsy. We all came back normal. We were checked once per year for the following two years as well just to be sure (at the request of my grandparents). I don't think they will pursue the murder charge. The ME on the case long since passed away, all but one of the officers has retired or passed on and the testimony and what i recall is very little to go off of. The CSC is much more damning. Hospital records show a history of abuse, therapy records are being released so odds are there is much more there to stick.

So, revenge, then. Just like Min says.

It's not a Christian nation. Never has been, never will be.
