Yes. I prepared myself for it pretty well and it went smoother than I thought and I know I would have regretted not being there. He made no comments, made no eye contact, just accepted his punishment and was taken away and that was it. Huge relief.

My step father was sentenced on Nov 9th to 40 years in prison, chance of parole in 20 years. Most likely he will never be in public again considering his age and health. Good to have closure.
Congratz on closing that page of your life.
Seems excessive to me, but what do I care?...

I figured that's why you had to take off for awhile. Deeply Serious Stuff requires a lot of focus, there's not always room for much outside of the crucial stuff (family, job, etc.).
Glad things went smoother than you thought they would.

There was that and another unexpected thing that has caused a lot of turmoil, but we are rebounding from it and will be stronger because of it.

Firstly welcome back Kingpin - you have been missed by me and many others.
Second, I'm glad that your family now has justice and something resembling closure. May that bastard never see freedom again.
Hope you're ok and things will sort themselves out in the end

Wow, that is a powerful experience, good that you are all ok!

That sounds like the best outcome that could be expected given the situation. Well done for being so brave, and I hope this helps you move on and to become stronger still.
