The Paradox of Power....

To believe as many true things as possible.

Quote:Do you want God to exist?
or
Do you want him not to exist?

It very much depends on the god. There are some gods that it would be nice if they existed, and some that it would be bad if they existed. However, what I want to be true is also irrelevant in a conversation about what is true, and even if the god you believed in was one that I didn't want to exist, I would still accept that it does, indeed, exist upon being given a sufficient amount of evidence.

There are plenty of things I don't want to be true that still are, and I accept that they are anyway; I don't, for example, want mass shootings to exist, but I still acknowledge that they do. If I gave you the second answer to your question, that still wouldn't be a reason for you to throw up your hands and not proceed any further, because not wanting god to exist is not the same thing as being closed off to any evidence of his existence.

Quote:Would you be happy if he does exist?
or
would you be sad if he does exist?

Again, it depends on the god and what it's about. But also keep in mind that my happiness is not relevant to reality; the universe doesn't exist to make me happy, after all.
Okay.
Trusting on your honesty I will proceed.Soon.

(If this messes up, I have tried to insert a meme twice without success.)

The questions are absurd.  I want scientifically-verifiable evidence.  My wishes and emotions are irrelevant.

As for your archaeological evidence, please share. Perhaps we can start with the Exodus. Then maybe we can move on to the kingdom of Judah and all the claims made about its significance and wealth. This should be fun.

Regarding your stuff about Jesus, the word "allegedly" isn't in your vocabulary, is it? You understand that the Bible is the claim, not the evidence for the claim, right? Yeah, I know you don't get that, which is why you're a Christian in the first place. But do try to keep up.

I hope Stimbo's not right and that you're not a Poe, though I'm starting to suspect you are.

About me and why I believe.
  • I was brought up in faith.
  • I studied theology and the bible.
  • I studied a bit of catholic apologetics .
  • I don't just believe because the bible say's so but because of miracles.
  • Because of science.
  • Because of Archaeology of the Bible.
  • Because of the biblical prophetical accuracy and fulfilment.
  • Because of the bibles historical accuracy.
  • Personal experience with God.
  • Other people and my families experience of God.
  • Because it give's me reason why am here.
  • Because it give's me the instruction's to live.
  • Because it bring's joy and happiness atheism doesn't.
  • Because it gives me a reason to live.
  • Because It gives you the path to heaven.
  • Because It makes you realise that you are important.
  • Because I want to believe.
  • Because I don't want to go to hell.
  • Because I know that if I have children and If don't bring them up in faith they won't be good.
  • We call that indoctrination.
  • And?
  • ^
  • What miracles? Provided you can name a few, can you demonstrate that they are miracles, and that they can't possibly be anything else?
  • What scientific evidence do you have that leads you to believe in your religion?
  • What archaeology?
  • Do tell.
  • Spit Coffee
  • What of those "personal experiences" of people of other faiths?
  • ^
  • If it makes you feel better to have a non-answer then more power to you I suppose.
  • Yes, where would you be without the guidelines on how to treat your slaves and sell your daughter?  Dodgy
  • I'm quite happy and joyful.
  • Repetition, the last bastion of those with no point.
  • Does it? Can you demonstrate this?
  • Rolleyes
  • Is that a valid reason to believe anything? What if I want to believe that I can read minds? Does that make it so?
  • Stick and the carrot, eh?
  • How have you come to know this? Do you know people brought up outside your faith bubble? No one needs your belief system to be good people mate.

  1. I wasn't talking to you.
