Priest at the hospital

RE: Priest at the hospital
Most hospitals will have pastoral care involved. In the UK there are pastors from all religions just in case someone wants them.

I have no objection at all. I don't see it as my right to tell someone in hospital what they can and can't use to help them, and as there is plurality on the provision then I think it's fine.

I can't remember off the top of my head but there was a drive to get humanist pastors installed but I honestly can't remember what (if anything l) came of it. I'll check it out.

However, what is described in the OP is certainly not ok. I was in hospital about a year or so ago with a ruptured appendix. Following the surgery the catholic pastor came in to say hi and he was pleasant enough. I told him I wasn't religious and he didn't care, he just spoke to me about how the surgery went and what was going on with me, didn't even mention God or religion once. Nice guy.

That is fine, saying a blessing for someone who hasn't asked for it I think is overstepping the line.

The priest would have proven himself a worthy human and served his god immeasurably better if he had limited his remarks to the above.

I'm glad to hear you're OK Smile

It's tricky, and clear double standards. No one would let me in a hospital as a satanist or a pastafarian pastor, would they?

They think that they are helping.

I agree but have to question how much actual thought goes into it.
