People like speaking for God all the time but will rarely be comfortable with admitting they are. Puts them on the defensive.
If they aren't uncomfortable with this then you are dealing with a nutbar. Nutbars are easily made to look foolish as they make demonstrably untrue statements then dig themselves deeper and deeper.

But I do love these side by side translations.   The readings differ so much it is as if each translator has his own version of the language.  Which puts the lie to this word of god horseshit.

When the English committee wrote the Bible they didn't use chapters or verses.  That came centuries later.

What value do you place upon being able to debate about bible passages?  

Very little. Often any debate on Bible passages is a "lecture on what my pastor told me" from the theist interspersed with with their opinions upon what the Bible should say. It's like wading into the swamp to wrestle an alligator. You're not really missing anything.
