I think it's a shame that she couldn't donate her eyes rather than destroy them

One of the greatest posts ever on this forum. Mental illness is no less valid. Period. To be honest she's gotta be pretty damn ill to do this. Self harm and mental illness is no more deserving of mockery and shunning because the illness results in a physical one. If she was not ill it would be a different matter - but to say she 'deliberately' did it may be rather misleading considering the poor woman is clearly not in her right mind.
I was having a very low self esteem day a while back and decided to Google to see if anyone ever fetishized wheelchairs, crutches, and those of us who used them (people do. They are called devotees). I found a messageboard that I joined for a while as a result. They actually talked about BIID and had a few members that were BIID. I never grew to understand it too well, and still don't. I agree that being disabled pushes you outside the social norm to where you are coddled, ignored, and talked over/talked for. And yes, the unemployment rate is staggering, which just makes it harder for greater society, who are the ones who are footing the bill for our existence in many cases (I have spina bifida, btw).
However, I have had instances where I have ideated being an amputee. In my mind, no more dragging of my legs against pavement like I do now, with my tight quadriceps. No amount of PT seems to do the trick, or so it seems (maybe if I layed off the fattening foods. Heh) But the older I get, the more I appreciate that expression "The grass is always greener on the other side." Maybe it is in some ways. But maybe it's greener here, as we are. And maybe we'd wind up seeing that fact if we did something extreme like blind ourselves. I'll just stick with what I'm used to.

I'm seriously wondering if you Quill or anyone else actually watched the video posted. The lady has a mental issue and was getting supposed help from her psychiatrist, the psychiatrist is the one who poured the drain cleaner in her eyes, so you tell me who has the greater mental illness. The psychiatrist hasn't been charged with anything as far as I know, so what's up with this, isn't anyone looking out for the welfare of the mentally ill, where is the compassion we're suppose to have for others. Quill I haven't seen it from you, I have seen it from many others though and I thank each one of you. In my opinion the one who needs the greatest help is the one who was suppose to be helping her, not harming her, and that person should be punished for harming someone who is so vulnerable.

God loves those who believe and those who do not and the same goes for me, you have no choice in this matter. That puts the matter of total free will to rest.

I'm sorry for what you go through, but she did nothing to you. She's a mentally ill person, who's illness caused her to do something horrible to herself. We should feel sorry for her, not be angry at her.
"Of course, everyone will claim they respect someone who tries to speak the truth, but in reality, this is a rare quality. Most respect those who speak truths they agree with, and their respect for the speaking only extends as far as their realm of personal agreement. It is less common, almost to the point of becoming a saintly virtue, that someone truly respects and loves the truth seeker, even when their conclusions differ wildly."

Learning to dress yourself? Learning to eat without making a total mess. The self-consciousness of going out for a walk. The sensory overload when suddenly you have to wait and listen for doorways? The overwhelming smells? The people who coddle you constantly? The loneliness because most people don't want to date a disabled woman? The -75% employment rate? Fighting tooth and nail to paid a proper wage? She's a total ass. Well said.

If someone purposely disables themselves they should not be able to receive disability or any other governmental support. They can fend for themselves.
Our resources are for people that are legitimately disabled. People like her drain the needed resources from people that really need it.
