Gotcha.About 50% of Americans are nuts. Adults who believe in supernatural beings dreamed up by ancient conmen is a good indicator that the believer is nuts.
Isn't that the attitude YOU guys claim to hate when theists have it?

Otherwise they are simply uneducated, or undereducated, or were bamboozled when told what they had qualified as education befitting a society almost 4 centuries beyond the start of the Age of Enlightenment. Perhaps you should read up on compartmentalization as a cognitive phenomenon. I know plenty of intelligent Christians, indeed have some in my family. RE: Muslims

Gotcha. No. We don't threaten you with eternal torment for choosing to be uneducated, or for being cognitively dissonant, Nor would we ever tempt you with idiotic and grotesquely overreaching promises of the most sickeningly infantil rewards that is calculated to appeal to the most foolish expression of your selfishness, while telling you some ultimate unprovable, undisprovable, but most grotesquely and self-servingly contrived supreme being would approve of you if you were to abandon the only worthwhile part of your thinking apparatus and fall for this sham. Compartmentalization in this case is but a euphemism for cognitive dissonance. There is no doubt some of the insane, the cognitively dissonant, and the uneducated are brilliant. That doesn't mean they are therefore either right where their afflictions have effected them, or their defects less of a defect or less problematic as a defect. RE: Muslims

But cognitive dissonance is not cognitive deficiency, which is what you wrote. No one was arguing that brilliant people are automatically right, so I'm unsure why you felt the need to make that "point". As far as "afflictions" and "defect", you're trying to insert via language your views, without supporting them. You haven't shown that religious people are stupid, "cognitively deficient", "afflicted", "defective", or any other pejorative you wish to attach to them based upon your own distaste. Classing an entire swathe of people as "cognitively deficient", "afflicted", "defective" (or any other phrase you wish to use) simply based on their belief-system reveals an understanding of intelligence on your part that is very shallow. "Of course, everyone will claim they respect someone who tries to speak the truth, but in reality, this is a rare quality. Most respect those who speak truths they agree with, and their respect for the speaking only extends as far as their realm of personal agreement. It is less common, almost to the point of becoming a saintly virtue, that someone truly respects and loves the truth seeker, even when their conclusions differ wildly."
