My parents put a lot of value in having a pure family line, so they would likely expect me to keep my family name if I married, though I personally don't care. If I married, and my fiance wanted to keep her name, I'd be fine with it.
The only time it is alright for the man to take the woman's last name is if he is a submissive cowardly cuckold type of fellow.
My wife did it purely for financial reasons. Need I say more?
Being told you're delusional does not necessarily mean you're mental.

If I got married, my would-be husband would have to have a pretty kick-ass last name for me to change mine. Mine is unique enough that in every instance of coming across someone with my last name I have discovered that we are related with a common ancestor only about three generations back (my great-gandparents' generation).
Can't say for certain that this is true for everyone in the US/world with my last name (it might be a way more common name in Germany/The Netherlands than here) but it's held true so far... Plus, if I changed my name it would die out in my branch of the family tree: My dad's grandparents had three daughters and one son, and the only son had only daughters (of which I am one).

Plus, changing my name sounds like a lot of work and I'm lazy.

Seems like a good reason to me .. not to mention the fact that it dove tails with your preference to remain lazy. |
