Off the top of my head I'd have to say Slartibartfast. Not only did he create the fjords, but it would just be awesome to say "Slartibartfast" all of the time.

Oh, if we're talking animals, I would love to be friends with Oberon from the Iron Druid series. If you haven't heard the audiobook versions of those, you SHOULD just to hear the wacky Irish Wolfhound talking.

It is hard to separate characters from their fictional worlds. Like if I friend Gandalf, will there be a middle earth, will he be in our world but with magic?
