Quote: then how does this automatically make someone "bright"

Are you sure you want to hear the answer to that?

I've never read any books in the atheist rant genre. I've watched a few of the guys you listed on youtube debating various theists. Often I think they make good points. Occasionally I think they get a little simplistic, attacking theism in its weakest forms.

I voted Sam Harris. Ayaan Hirsi Ali would have been good to see on the list.

Jennifer Michael Hecht. Look her up - if I tell you about her, you won't believe me. She's that amazing.

I think they all contribute to the cause in their own way. They all say stuff I agree with, and they all say other stuff that I don't agree with. So as far as I'm concerned, there's no "One to rule them all" as far as atheist representation goes.

Yes, you forgot Madalyn Murray-O'Hair.  She literally died to make her point.

Although the term "spokesman" would be wrong, I think that the biggest promoters of atheism are the fundie idiots, like the Duggars, Kim Davis, the Phelps clam, Ken Ham, Ted Haggard, Pat Robertson, the guys who predict the Rapture, cult leaders who pass out the koolaid, all the rapist preachers and priests.

We need more of them to splatter their hypocrisy and ignorance and holier-than-thou hatred and grasping for control all over the media.  They're so good at making new atheists.

Boru

I just did.  She is impressive.  Is there any one of her books you would recommend above others?

I like Penn Jillette, as a spokesman for atheism - if not necessarilly the "best" one. He helps to break the stereotype, that atheism is only for smart people. Tongue
